3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new & improved here.
As someone who has enjoyed Szabo's music for 40 years, I was excited to see the reissue of these 2 outstanding albums on one CD. I was disappointed in the disk, however, as its sound is certainly no improvement, and in some cases a step backwards from the quality of sound on the earlier issed DCC CD's. The music is enchanting, haunting, provocative...but the "remaster"...

I think you will be much happier with the sound and mastering. Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not his best, April 28, 2008

Although Gabor Szabo on his worst day is still better than most guitarists on their best days, I have to say that this was not his best album--that would be 'The Socerer' (1967). His guitar-work is still technically brilliant, but the energy level just doesn't feel quite as high as it did in the earlier albums. Too many instrumental pop-rock covers give this album a muzak-like groove; it definitely doesn't feel jazzy or avant-guarde. It is easy on the ears, but I suppose that's the problem: it doesn't challenge them enough. If you already own everything else he did, it's still worth the price. But don't let this be your first Gabor Szabo album.
