A Great Innovator,
By
This review is from: Bacchanal (Audio CD)
Gabor Szabo was a unique guitarist and fantastic musician whose sound is instantly recognizable once you hear his recordings. Listen for the use of open strings both in melodic lines and as drones, controled feedback, up-picking where other guitarists would use a downstroke, and more. This album does not contain his most creative work but demonstrates what a highly creative musician can do with some fairly ordinary pop tunes. Sadly only a small portion of his work is available on CD and hence I've given this album 5 stars whereas in the galaxy of all his recordings, it would get fewer.

An obscure influence of countless Jazz and Rock musicians,

I heard about Szabo through an interview with Carlos Santanna. I was hooked the first time i heard his westernized latin rythyms.

I think maybe his newer stuff might be more interesting, but this seemed full of cliches and entirely too predictable. It was "OK", but not very exciting.
