great!,
This review is from: Bach 1860 Straight Trumpet Mute
it's really cheap, won't dent when you drop it, and it sounds really nice. what more could you want? it's extremely light and will not damage your trumpet if you accidentally jam it in the wrong way. well, maybe it will, but not nearly as bad as some of the metal straight mutes would. and the sound quality is unmatchable. this mute is worth more than 13 bucks, I can tell you that for sure.

A very good value at the price. I like that this plastic Bach straight mute suprisingly is intune in all registers of the trumpet. The sound is somewhat different than the straight metal mute.

Great choice for a student, or others,

Many trumpet players may go for years without ever *needing* a mute, but it's nice to have one around for those moments when you want to pretend to be Miles Davis, or just lower the volume level to avoid bothering the neighbors, or for whatever reason you have. You can spend a lot of money for such a thing, but unless you're at a really high level of playing where you'd notice the difference, I think this one should be just fine.
I bought this mute for a first-year trumpet player as a "just-in-case" accessory, and for the most part, that's where it has stayed -- "just in the case." Imagine my surprise when in the second year of band, the trumpet part for one song specified playing an entire chorus with a straight mute (like this one) installed. Of course, only one or two of the student trumpeters owned mutes, which proved my point about it being non-essential. You can't have half the trumpets muted, and the other half playing normally! In a jazz band, even in middle or high school, I think one might consider a mute as being "standard equipment" and that's where this could work well. As others have noted, it is durable, fits well without jamming, and does not affect the pitch much at all. Considering that a Bach mouthpiece costs about three times the price of this mute, it seems a bargain as a cool accessory.

Shopped around for the best buy on a trumpet mute for our grandson. Went with the Bach 1860 Straight Trumpet Mute through Amazon. The price was the best around and we received the product within a week. Sure beats running around to all the music stores in our area. We had already made several calls without finding one. Thanks for having it available!

It was buy my son a mute or strangle him. I'm writing this as I'm listening to the trumpet version of House of the Rising Son for the umpteenth time. It is not as loud as without a mute. Before the mute, the trumpet echoed all through the house. Now, I can actually think while he plays.
The quality seems okay. It is held in by cork and is one size fits all. I hear it fall out at least once a night. I don't mind, the kid stops playing for a minute and it hasn't broken yet.

Very nice mute. It costs a little more than the traditional straight mute but I like how it looks when used in the horn.

I was looking for an inexpensive mute I could use to practice late at night and without making my dog cry. This one works perfectly for me. I'm a beginner, so I don't have very complex needs-- good sound, good price, good for my dog's ears and my neighbors' sleeping children. This met all my expectations, and I would definitely recommend it.
