The standard starter mouthpiece, January 4, 2012

The Bach 7C has long been the standard for a beginning trumpet player. If you are just getting started, this is the mouthpiece to get. However, if you have thicker/bigger lips, a 5C (which is slightly bigger) might be a better choice. I have started students on both mouthpieces and have had success both ways. If you are not sure, ask your teacher or buy both and send back the one that is not as easy or comfortable to play. Mouthpieces are certainly a personal preference. If you want to save some money, I can recommend the Blessing line of mouthpieces as well.
