5.0 out of 5 stars a sensitive original instruments recording, March 6, 2000

This review is from: Bach: Cantatas BWV 180, 49, 115 /Concerto Vocale Leipzig * Ensemble Baroque de Limoges * Coin (Audio CD)
Beautiful, delicate sound characterize this recording of 3 relatively unknown cantatas. Cantata 49 with it's spirited sinfonia is of particular note. Mr. Coin, the director, uses an organ for continuo, which I find hardly intrusive and a welcome change from the usual harpsicord. He is a virtuoso of the violoncello piccolo which is used prominently in these cantatas, and to very charming effect. Sensitive vocal performances throughout.

4.0 out of 5 stars moving moments for the Bach collector, November 27, 2000
This review is from: Bach: Cantatas BWV 180, 49, 115 /Concerto Vocale Leipzig * Ensemble Baroque de Limoges * Coin (Audio CD)
These cantatas will probably interestingly only Bach enthusiasts. They don't have the grand or highly intricate pieces of, say, a B minor Mass or St. Matthew Passion. Still, for the Bach collector, this CD is worth picking up. First and foremost in my mind is the rendering of the well-known soprano aria, "Bete aber auch dabei". Its tempo is taken considerably slower than I've ever heard; exceptional space and breadth is given to the notes; it's consciousness-expanding. The acute listener will breath more slowly and deeply while taking in the arches of this music. Overall the authentic style of performance is very good. Orchestral forces and singers accent well and are not anemic.
