This review is from: Bach: Cantatas, Vol. 25 - John Eliot Gardiner, Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists (Audio CD)
This, I'm afraid, is what I'm reduced to saying. To my ears, the standards of music and of music making in these recordings are astonishingly high, given the schedule that Gardiner set himself. Of course, in the final analysis, you can allow for the facts that they're live recordings done in a relative rush only so far - in the end, you want a good, satisfying recording to which you will constantly return. And you get that too, crisp, clear, incisive singing and playing. There are rough patches, and the soloists may not be top-drawer, but this doesn't matter - the whole is indeed satisfying.
To the best of my knowledge, mine is NOT hybrid SACD, but normal Red Book CD. I must look more closely, but I think the Amazon editorial team is getting confused with the Suzuki/BIS set, which are hybrid SACD. P.S. Checked - definitely NOT hybrid SACD.
