the Gould of this repertory, June 3, 2007

Rubsam registrates and clarifies line throughout as Gould did. Tempos however are slower due to 1) the instrument's reverberant nature and 2) the pieces' less-dancelike idiom. This German Mass never sounded more "right".
I only came to these recordings recently, though I happened to matriculate at the University of Chicago while Rubsam manned the loft. What a joy! I only wished I'd had the balls to approach him for lessons, having wetted my technique in high school. I'd suspected he was extraordinary and now I know it to be true.
