5.0 out of 5 stars Such An Impact!
As a college student who still remembers and loves her "Mr. Bach Comes To Call", "Beethoven Lives Upstairs", and "Mozart's Magic Fantasy: A Journey Through 'The Magic Flute'", I would recommend these CDs without a doubt. Over a decade later I still remember these tapes (as they were when I first got them) and still remember classical songs...

2.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment!
I ordered this after hearing the smart and wonderfully creative "Beethoven Lives Upstairs." Sadly, this one is poorly written and badly acted. The setting for the story has Bach visiting modern-day children. This just doesn't work. Also, the producers have Bach speaking with a rather thick German accent. I found it very difficult to understand him at times...

Over a decade later I still remember these tapes (as they were when I first got them) and still remember classical songs that many of my friends can't even name composers to. A wonderful educational investment for your children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably what got me hooked on classical music this year, January 6, 2001

When I was three and four, I loved this CD. I listened to it all the time, could remember all the words, and loved the songs. However, it went missing after that and I didn't see it again until I was twelve and a half. After hearing my old favourite again and recognizing little tunes that had had me wondering about the names, I decided to stop listening to popular music because of how much more I enjoyed the classical songs on this CD. Now I still listen to classical music and have a large collection. I got rid of my popular CDs and have not regretted it once. Thanks to this series for renewing my liking for classical music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding for Early Elementary School Kids. Highly Awarded, January 12, 2003
This review is from: Mr. Bach Comes to Call (Audio CD)
This is an excellent CD for any early elementary school age child. The story is interesting, and the music snippets are outstanding.

My second grade daughter especially loves this CD (and Bach) because she takes piano lessons.

Mr. Bach Comes To Call received a Parents Choice Award, among others, and was recommended by the much praised "What Your Second Grader Needs to Know." This is a quality CD.

The similar Beethoven CD by Classical Kids is equally superb, and I have read that the Vivaldi CD is good, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tale of love, passion and joy for the entire family, December 19, 2002
By
Thomas J. Wilson "cafetono" (Long Beach, California USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In my family, "Mr. Bach Comes to Call" has proven to be much more than simply a delightful retelling of the life of Johann Sebastian Bach, it has defined the course of daily life for me and my children for the past year. We feast upon it, almost daily, as a connoisseur would feast upon a fine meal. At their insistence, my five year old son and eight year old daughter both began studying violin and piano a year ago; both are still passionately practicing and awaiting the day when they can "meet Elizabeth" and rival Glenn Gould on the piano.
(When NPR broadcast a program on Glenn Gould's 70th birthday featuring the Goldberg Variations, they insisted that I buy it.) They've become passionate devotees of this and of the Musical Offering and the Art of the Fugue, but they still want to hear "Mr. Bach Comes to Call" on almost a nightly basis. This is a jewel of a recording that we, as a family, continue to love and to treasure above all others. Every family should have it; single adults should have it; every family and every individual should experience the passion and the joy in their lives that we've derived from this fine recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, original, fresh, December 26, 2001

I have a 3-year-old. We first purchased Beethoven Lives Upstairs and he absolutely loved it. So, after some time we got this CD. It took him about a week to switch from Mr. Beethoven to Mr. Bach. This is his CD number one now and it has been indispensable for quite some time! He often says Mr. Bach this, Mr. Bach that; knows some parts by heart (!!!) and listens to the CD at least once a day. I am actually deciding now which CD from these series we want to buy next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great investment!, January 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mr. Bach Comes to Call (Audio CD)
This is my eight-year-old's favorite CD. The story line is very creative and catches a child's attention from the beginning. My son now recognizes fugues and cantatas, knows when Bach lived and remembers many details about his life. We also own "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" and have enjoyed it.

All three of our children (8, 6 and 3) love this CD. The oldest is taking piano lessons and we found it helpful in motivating him to practice. Educational and a wonderful story line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grew up with this....., December 4, 2005
This review is from: Mr. Bach Comes to Call (Audio CD)
I was just listening to some classical music and a piece by Bach came on and i was reminded of this CD (tape when i was a kid) and I really remember loving this recording and listening to it over and over as a kid. It really gave me an appreciation for this kind of music! Maybe from an adult perspective it's simple or inaccurate - but it really brought Bach to life for me as a child.

I first started listening to this cd when i was 6-8 and i loved every bit of music that they would play. I loved the choir boys and that they were really cheecky. Its just the best way for your childrne to learn about composers and for them to start appreciating classical music
