Comments on the Mariner recording of Vivaldi and Bach, June 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bach: Magnificat - Vivaldi: Gloria / Hendricks, Murray, Rigby, Heilmann, Hynninen, Marriner (Audio CD)
I found this CD to be excellent and I plan to order more copies for friends. The listener could hear the emotion from the soloists in Vivaldi's "Gloria", especially on "Domine Deus". Bach's "Magnificat" was wonderfully performed for the high quality recording, and I especially enjoyed the canon "Sicut Locutus Est".

Glorious, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Bach: Magnificat - Vivaldi: Gloria / Hendricks, Murray, Rigby, Heilmann, Hynninen, Marriner (Audio CD)
This is a must-have CD for any fan of Bach or Vivaldi or just sacred music in general. Sir Neville Marriner and the always superb Academy of St. Martin in the Fields orchestra and chorus give energetic and uplifting performances of both works. The members of the chorus achieve the color range of an orchestra, and the orchestra displays lyricism one normally would only hear from vocalists. It's hard to believe that many members of this outstanding chorus are not professional musicians but come from all walks of life. Buy this CD and be entranced. You won't be sorry.
