Sublime! Wonderful!,

When Rosand recorded it he is already 70 years old! Though the S&P are still played with fire & lively spirits (& remind me of "modern prodigy's" dull & slow playing with weak tone). His vibrato has been slowed down from 40 years ago when he recorded the series of romantic concertos & concert pieces (Ernst, Joachim, Saint Saens, Lalo, Sarasate, Tchaikovsky etc etc)- nevertheless, still in perfect itonation with purity. Just imagine a romantic violinist played for 60 years and finally records the baroque Bach S&P with such sublimation.

Fantastic!! Unlike many of the supposed "period" performances of these violin staples, Rosand offers us elegance, fire and character. It's nice when a musician can also give us such insight into the music, especially, when the performer can find such synergy between themselves, the composer and the composition. Certainly, the "period" performances have their following, but it's difficult to avoid the fact that those performances (even the better ones) can come across a little clinical and cold! The sound quality is excellent.
