I bought this CD last spring because I needed to learn the music quickly in order to perform "Don Octave" onstage with none other than Peter Schickele conducting! This is classic, irreverent, tongue-in-cheek PDQ at his best, and Mozart fans will especially enjoy the approach...no doubt Wolfgang would have approved. I'm proud to have met and worked with this satirical genius of our time, and can assure you that as entertaining as he is on CD, he is even funnier face-to-face! ENJOY!

This Cd is very funny with such a cast Donna Ribalda - mezzanine-soprano Carmen Ghia - off-coloratura Don Octave - bargan counter tenor and much more if you like opera period, this is a good, fun CD and not a bad price either

Here is a true threat to the sanctity of the Saturday Morning Metropolitan Opera broadcasts! Right from the get-go we hear a perfect parody of the opening of the broadcast, only this one comes from the "Gymnasium Proper" of the University of North Dakota at Hoople. The entire opera is filled with musical jokes and witty lyrics and is performed, amazingly, by only three performers. My favorite part is the intermission feature "Opera Whiz" a direct barb thrown at the venerable Met intermission feature "Opera Quiz". Don't expect a symphony orchestra here or singers on the caliber of Renee Fleming but do expect a spirited and ofter hilarious performance. Be sure to listen to the entire CD (even the madrigals) because the broadcast doesn't go off the air until after them. Well worth the money.
