Very Appealing, September 6, 2010
This review is from: Bach , The Well-Tempered Clavier, Complete Recording (Audio CD)
It almost goes without saying that this elegantly distaff interpretation of Bach's masterpiece is nothing like the crazy Canadian's. This is a very personal and reliably musical reading throughout. It is virtuosic, as if by convenience more than anything else. It is resolutely pushy with some tempos in the fugues, but it is never showy. In a word, it is what a tremendously talented musician should give us in the well-tempered realm. A personal experience. Not a hyper-masculine existenitialist ultimatum a la Gould. This is a lady-like interpretation in the very best sense. That is to say say, sensitive, coaxing and musically reassuring in a wonderful way. There is nothing missing in it one bit. The feminine touch only offers greater insight.
