4.0 out of 5 stars 60s Suburban Goofiness? I'm the one in Paradise!
I'm probably the last person in the world the makers of Bachelor In Paradise had in mind when they crafted this little piece of cinematic cuteness. I'm not a Bob Hope fan, and I'm not too keen on romantic comedies, either. In fact, I'm still not exactly sure what inspired me to watch the movie in the first place. Regardless, I LOVED Bachelor In Paradise.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bob Hope in another great Classic !!!
This is another of Bob Hopes fun films ! Lana Turner plays hard to get in this wonderful movie. Warner states on the case that it is remastered; however it is not up to what I would call remastered though. There is nice color balance; but a lot of dirt and scratches that are normally not in a remaster. There is one scene in the movie with Hope in the kitchen trying...

This flick is hopelessly predictable, and yet I fell hopelessly in love with the goofy tale of writer A.J. Niles plunked into the Paradise Hills community to observe the quirky rites and rituals of its Atomic Age inhabitants. I think the movie's greatest appeal these days rests in its affectionate and humorous portrait of suburban America in the early 60s; from the houses painted "California Choral" to the way-cool drive-in restaurants and bowling alleys, this is the suburban America of Ed Wood minus the satire. I loved it.
But even if you're not a fan of postwar-era suburbia, there's plenty to like about the movie. Hope's lines are actually quite funny, the chemistry between he and Lana Turner is palpable, and the off-the-wall chaos that results from Hope's counseling of the bored women of Paradise Hills is a complete hoot.

All hail director Jack Arnold, master of mid-century pop culture fun. Now somebody put this puppy out on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob Hope at His Timeless Best!, February 15, 2003

If you love to laugh...if you love TIMELESS comedy...THIS is a MUST HAVE!This is the best entertainer the world has ever seen...at least in popularity and comedy. It does not matter how many times I see this movie...I love it, and want to see it again and again. Never tire of it. It hearkens back to simpler, better times in America, stress free, when the only problems were the mysterious single guy down the street who unbeknownst to the neighbors...is a swinging sex expert novelist...living anonymously among them to do further research. Tim Hutton and other stars add their ingredients to a top notch classic sixties comedy in the realm of Doris Day, James Garner, Carey Grant.

Settling into suburbia without a clue of how to manage a household, this master of comedy shows everyone how funny everyday life can be. BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!

It is such a funny classic in my opinion! I am a big fan of Bob Hope and had never heard of the film, but I was able to finally catch it one time on tv as per my mother's recommendation and I am so lucky to have seen it. [...]

Even though this movie is a little dated, it's still really funny. I always liked this movie when it was on TV in the past, but I wasn't sure if I would still like it due to not seeing it for so long. I ended up loving this movie. Bob Hope's one liners & facial expressions are priceless. Bob plays a writer that must do research on the lives of couples living in the suburbs for a book in order to get money to pay off the IRS. Overall, it's a fun filled movie that's great to watch over & over again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad, June 5, 1999
By A Customer

When i first saw this movie, I was amazed to find out that Paula Prentiss's character looks just like my mom. Besides that, i have to say that this was a pretty good movie. It was pretty funny and believable, but even though I haven't seen any other of Lana Turner's movies, I bet she gave better performances in those; she's largely wasted here. Bob Hope is his usual funny self; so is Agnes Morehead as the judge, and Jim Hutton as the husband of Paula Prentiss (you know, the character who looks like my mom.) Not the greatest movie ever made, of course, but still fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars The finned cars, the gals, the new houses... and then there is Bob!, March 29, 2008

I saw this at the walk-in in the 60s when I was a little tyke and just loved it. I saw it on TV in the 90s and since I was living in Southern California I knew where the hood was so I searched one day and I found the house! It is in Calabasas right off the 101 and Mulholland Highway. I loved the finned cars and the gorgeous women. Damn, that Bob Hope was one lucky Bachelor. When it comes out on DVD I will buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS BRINGS ME BACK!, February 10, 2008

Believe it or not but I saw this movie when it was in theaters-and living in Southern California. The outside shots are EXACTLY the way it looked back in the late 50's/early 60's. I could watch this movie over and over and over... love Paula Prentiss and Jim Hutton-they have great chemistry.
Seeing this movie is also very nostalgic because it was the end of an era=Bob Hope and Lana Turner, Annette and Frankie were at the beach and Pat Boone was on the radio.

I wish they would release this on DVD; I'd buy it in a second.

When will this delightful movie be available on DVD? I agree with most of what the positive reviews of this film say. It's a delicious look at early 60s suburban sensibilities, and the cast is wonderful. Make no mistake -- I'm a teenager of the 60s, and I was no fan of Bob Hope's conservative viewpoints on the Vietnam war. But, I LOVE Bob Hope -- the same way I love my parents, who had similar beliefs during that time. Bob Hope was a marvelous comedic actor, and this movie is just great entertainment. Lana Turner is wonderful, Paula Prentiss (one of the most under-appreciated actresses in the last century) was wonderful, and the whole movie is a delight from start to finish. It pains me to see that used VHS versions of this movie are selling from private owners for $50 plus, and the studio that owns the rights is not releasing it to DVD. HELLO! I'm a baby-boomer, and this movie came out when I was 10 years old! We are the fastest-growing and largest part of the population of this country. Bob Hope died 3 years ago, and you're missing a good bet! Get with it, and release the DVD!

This is another of Bob Hopes fun films ! Lana Turner plays hard to get in this wonderful movie. Warner states on the case that it is remastered; however it is not up to what I would call remastered though. There is nice color balance; but a lot of dirt and scratches that are normally not in a remaster. There is one scene in the movie with Hope in the kitchen trying to get a garbage disposal freed up when all of a sudden the color changes hue and is somewhat saturated. This is only for a short time period. It was really great to see this movie come out on DVD; but the quality represents that of a VHS version. If you like Bob Hope- you wont be too disappointed. Just wish that Warner Brothers would have taken time to give this movie proper treatment.
