5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal Cookbook for Men -Great Food, Lots of Laughs
The cartoons and recipe chapter headings alone are enough reason to buy this super cookbook. Look up 20+ Ways to Cook Hamburger and Career-Path Casseroles - well worth the price of admission. These recipes are written in an off-the-wall style, but they really work. I gave this book to my two sons when they moved out to go to university and to work, and they loved it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Profoundly meh
It's kinda dated and oriented toward Midwestern North American cuisine: blah and bland. Not really my kinda of thing, although for someone raised on that sort of thing it'd probably be a worthy addition.

The cartoons and recipe chapter headings alone are enough reason to buy this super cookbook. Look up 20+ Ways to Cook Hamburger and Career-Path Casseroles - well worth the price of admission. These recipes are written in an off-the-wall style, but they really work. I gave this book to my two sons when they moved out to go to university and to work, and they loved it. The recipes range from very basic, boiled eggs and Macaroni and Cheese, to reasonably sophisticated but still very simple, Baked Rotini and Coq au Vin. I have friends who have bought this book for their kitchen-illiterate husbands when going on business trips or holidays, or even going into the hospital for an operation. Several women I know have also given this cookbook to male friends who have recently been divorced or widowed, it's been a lifesaver - no exaggeration.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great intro to the kitchen, and a keeper, April 24, 2006

My Mom bought me this cookbook when I first moved out on my own. It isn't written with a lot of cooking jargon that might frighten off a new cook, and instead says things like "chuck it all together and mix it up" which is much less intimidating than "fold" :)

I now am a decent cook, but I still refer back to it fairly frequently - the recipes are good, and easy! It also has menu plans for "impressing the ladies" -- although I am a woman, so I guess I could impress the guys. :)

Highly recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for bachelors and single dads, September 18, 2011

My mom got me this when I was in college over 20 years ago, and while the recipes were a bit impractical for college students (recipes that require fresh veggies? Where would I put those? I'm not gonna have to move my beer, am I?), they've served me well in the decades since. The marinade recipes are ones I keep coming back to over and over again. Soak a steak in the olive oil & red wine mixture described herein, and grill that up for your dinner date and she'll be loving you. Awesome casseroles, meat dishes, etc. Nothing fancy in terms of ingredients or prep time, but they'll taste like you slaved over it all day in the kitchen. Simply awesome.

Great little cookbook. It's an easy read, recipes are easy and with few easy to find ingredients. Some recipes offer variations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Set my 1st Copy on Fire, April 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bachelor's Guide: To Ward Off Starvation (Paperback)
I've enjoyed your cookbook "The Bachelor's Guide". I am 29 years old. I've owned a home for the past 20 months, and am enjoying your cookbook. In December I accidentally set my 1st copy of "The Bachelor's Guide" on fire, my mother gave me a new stove for Christmas. I always set the cookbook on the stove while cooking (NOT ANY MORE). I turned on the wrong element. I had thrown hamburger in the frying pan (I was cooking "Hobbley Cobbley" p. 44) I turned away to wash my hands at the sink. Out of the corner of my eye I saw smoke - I first thought it was just the element buring off a previous spill. That was not the case, it was the cookbook! I then threw the cookbook on the floor and started jumping on the book to stop the fire. Later that day I called the bookstore to order another copy. I burnt my first copy of "The Bachelor's Guide" - does this mean I am no longer entitled to the Diploma at the back of the book HA HA? This past week I received my second copy of "The Bachelor's Guide". I've continued making my favorites and trying new recipes.

P.S. My sister will be married for 13 years on June 6th, 2000 with 2 children 6 years and 9 years old, and she has heard me talk so much about "The Bachelor's Guide" she borrowed my cookbook. I bought her a copy of "The Bachelor's Guide to Ward Off Starvation" so she will have a copy of her own.
