4.0 out of 5 stars This how to rock in your 60's!
Bachman Turner have released a very good rockin' album here. It's like part 70's and some updated flourishes. If you liked BTO back in the day give this a shot, I think you'll like it. If they got the same publicity as the new Heart album this album might take off. A solid 4 star release.

2.0 out of 5 stars LOW GEAR
BACHMAN & TURNER: The long awaited merging of BTO's two main cogs RANDY BACHMAN and FRED TURNER falls flat on its beard...the meaty hooks, sledgehammer sound, and freewheelin' fun of yesteryear have been replaced with stale songs, tepid production and an overall sludgey pace. Opening track ROLLIN' ALONG comes off like a warmed over sequel to their hard rockin' truck...

5.0 out of 5 stars Comeback Album of the Year? It should be., October 9, 2010
This review is from: Bachman & Turner (Audio CD)
Like so many kids from my generation we listened to the hard rockin' sounds of Bachman Turner Overdrive and claimed the likes of "Takin' Care of Business", "Roll On Down the Highway", "Let It Ride", and "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" as our own personal anthems. This band was indeed a classic example of one who played no frills straight ahead rock and roll. Well, after 30+ years of silence the two main players, Randy Bachman and Fred Turner, have come back with a vengence. Their newest CD is certainly more proof that you are never too old to rock and roll. Songs like "Rollin' Along", "Find Some Love", "Slave to the Rhythem", and their new anthem "Rock and Roll Is the Only Way Out" is reason enough to buy this CD...NOW. This CD should be a Comeback Artist or Album of the Year nominee. If not something is very wrong. Great job, Randy and Fred! Keep 'em comin"!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Canandian rock gods are back!, September 17, 2010

Holy crap!, what a great album. Bachman & Turner are back with a hard driving rock masterpiece. This kind of music isn't made anymore, most every song on this disc is filled with hooks, great vocals and a wicked back beat, only by the last two songs on the album does the steam kind of run out.

If they would have released this in their hay day, this thing would have been killer, now days sad to say, it will probably be largely overlooked.

The only thing that is going to keep this down even among the faithful is the production, I don't know what they were doing but the album sounds like it was recorded by a 12 year in old in a basement somewhere. Don't know if they were going for this sound or not but either way it was a mistake.

4.0 out of 5 stars BTO Lives!!, September 23, 2010

I am a huge BTO fan but I haven't cared so much for Randy's post BTO career, although I have purchased every one of his albums. His mentor when he was learning guitar was a jazz musician, and Randy carried Lenny's influence into many BTO albums, which often had a jazzy tune or two. This new record, their first in over 25 years, is just plain great. I love it all. But I think it has too many jazzy Randy numbers and not enough hard rocking BTO-type songs. This was part of the disagreement between Bachman and Turner when they split up BTO in the first place, with Randy wanting more experimental jazz and Fred insisting on still being a rock and roll outfit (rumor has it that this is why Fred's picture doesn't appear on the Freeways album). If you like jazz, or Randy's post BTO career, then get this whole album. If you're more into BTO songs like 'Let it Roll' and 'Not Fragile,' then stick with downloading the harder rocking songs - 'Slave to the Rhythym,' 'Rock and Roll is the Only Way Out,' 'Rolling Along,' and 'I Saw the Light.' These songs are perfect shouting sing-along type rock, with that indefineable energy that only the really good bands have, much less bands fronted by guys my age. If this album had come out in the 70's these songs would be classic rock standards today. I think this recording proves that the music from the 70's can be done again - new but with the same sensibilities that made rock and roll such a power in the first place. Long live Fred and Randy!

Opening track ROLLIN' ALONG comes off like a warmed over sequel to their hard rockin' truck drivin' classic ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY, while ROCK & ROLL IS THE ONLY WAY OUT is an underwhelming anthem attempt that tanks quickly. Randy always fared best when paired with a creative equal like Fred or his old GUESS WHO mate BURTON CUMMINGS...the recent BACHMAN/CUMMINGS album of oldies covers was vibrant compared to B&T. TURNER's once ferocious man-mountain pipes have been diluted by age, while BACHMAN, always a better axeman than singer, comes nowhere close to equaling his best solo ditty PRARIE TOWN. There isn't a riff, lick, or lyric here that wasn't done better in the 70s. This may be a reunion folks, but it sure ain't a rebirth.

RATING: TWO RETREADS

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, September 11, 2010
This review is from: Bachman & Turner (Audio CD)
In my opinion, when a classic rock artist releases a new album, it is normally mediocre at best. This new CD by B&T is a sure exception to that rule! Not ONE weak song on whole CD!!!

Don't even think about it...BUY IT!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For BTO Fans, September 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bachman & Turner (Audio CD)
If your a Bachman Turner Overdrive fan, this is a must have for your collection. Each song has elements of previous great BTO songs with an updated twist. There isn't a bad song on the album. It's good to see some of the older bands come out with some new material and prove they can still do it. It's about time Randy put out some great rock again, and pairing back up with Turner, who was an integral part of BTO, proved to be a great choice. I hope this isn't the only one we'll get from them, because I welcome more.
