This is a great toy for train loving kids, a great upgrade as your child grows out of the wooden version. It has also proven to be a useful way to teach him how to be careful with something. It is not fragile, but nowhere near as durable (obviously) as the wooden (Brio) Thomas trains & accessories, and requires more care and attention.

Useful bit of info: this set only has enough track for a (pretty boring) oval. If you want to expand it, you need to know which color ez-track comes in the set (Bachman EZ track comes in two colors: black and grey roadbed). None of the pictures or descriptions I was able to find told that: it's the black roadbed. This is a bit of a disadvantage, and my only complaint, as the number of expansion options from bachmann for the black roadbed are much more limited than for the grey. I don't know why.

It was fun while it lasted, and the E-Z track is, indeed, very easy. However, the HO electric train engine stopped working within 1 day of use. I disassembled the engine and found that the electric motor housing is plastic, and with the heat from prolonged use, the housing melted and warped to the point that the motor would not longer run. The instructions warn against prolonged use and state that "you will extend the mechanical life of your train by not running it for prolonged periods...", but tell that to an excited child who wants to run it constantly. The durability of this toy is poor.

The website was misleading. It only lasted my son 3 hours. The site did not inform us that the train should not run for a one hour non stop. Pure nonsense. How do you tell a kid who loves a train to run it for 10 minutes per day and then turn it off till the next day. This product is pure rubbish.

For small children, below 8 years old, supervision is constantly required, as this is not really intended for very young kids, although in our house 2-4 year-olds have a great time with it. The imagination games with the helicopter and bus, and the rest are unlimited for small children. The locomotive has flown off the table onto the floor many times, but keeps running, albeit with broken buffers and so on, same with the carriages, bus etc. However, it is safest to assemble and run this thing on the floor, or on layout that has walls around the sides to stop the train taking off into flight. The complaints of other reviewers about the track are only true to some degree, but I have had no significant problems with the track. 3-4 year olds have no problem assembling a track oval etc. Our locomotive has not "melted down" but my grand-kids get bored often enough that the thing never runs for an hour at a time at high speed, so I don't expect any melting described by other reviewers. I was surprised at the quality of the locomotive. It is robust, but at the same time not babyish. So, for 8+ its a great start at railroad modeling. Younger kids needs different degrees of supervision while playing with it, depending on their age.

This was a TOTAL disaster! It was for my grandson on Christamas and we never got it together. The track was flimsy and soem track parts were already bent. The way it was constructed the power back was in an awkward position for hookup and for working. I was so angry that i put it back in the box to send it back thinking i had time and missed the deadline for return. This was $100 I threw in the garbage. which is what i did because i refused to give it to goodwill to avoid some other kid being frustrated.

It's not worth the money. Got it for Christmas for my 3 year old and its broken on day 1. My poor son wants to play with it. Now my choice is to replace it or return it. Why replace if its going to break again. The adapter is weak~ it worked for 5 minutes and stopped.

This is a great toy for children that would like an electric train. It's easy to assemble and use. The trains are sturdy enough for smaller children and they are easy to set on the tracks. Love it! We're expanding on Christmas. Won't ship to APO. Had to ship to an American address first and then had it shipped to an APO. Makes no sense, but my son loves it. It was worth the in between step.
