A Nice Little Set,

This review is from: Bachmann Trains Prairie Flyer Ready-to-Run N Scale Train Set (Toy)
The locomotive and cars in this set are smaller that one usually encounters since they represent trains as they were in the 19th Century. But, don't let the small size of the locomotive fool you...it's a very powerful little engine. The motor is in the tender and transmits the power to the drive wheels on the locomotive. It easily pulls the three cars included and will pull a couple additional cars. Remember, trains were not long back then! You should be pleased with this beauty. There is a lifetime limited waranty on the locomotive.

Tiny trains, very fragile.,
By Dflammer "DB Wizard" (Central NH, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bachmann Trains Prairie Flyer Ready-to-Run N Scale Train Set (Toy)
In all fairness it is exactly as advertised. Everything worked and the track needs to be carefully assembled as it is only about 1/4 inch between the rails on this set. This would be good for an adult who wants to build a tiny train village or something like that as many accessories and add-ons are available from Backmann.
This train set is not appropriate for children under 12-14. The trains and cars are very small and fragile. The engine tipped over and the drive shaft fell out. The drive shaft is about 1/3 inch long and double the thickness of a beard hair. I needed tweezers and a magnifying glass and spotlight to get it back in its slot. The vendor only gives 5 days returns so buying from them as a gift is not a good idea. A really bad call for us for our 7 year old son. We'll be trying to re-sell on auction and get him an appropriate sized train set.

Great substitute for Disneyland train; affordable and well done!,

This review is from: Bachmann Trains Prairie Flyer Ready-to-Run N Scale Train Set (Toy)
Bachmann has a great corner on the affordable model train market; they know which trains are the classics and do a great job of making models that the average modeler can afford. However, with affordability comes compromise; there is no working headlight on this model, which if on here, probably would have added to the cost. Still, it has a good amount of power and will look great on your N Scale layout. For Disneyland enthusiasts, other than the paint and lettering, this is pretty much the identical set as the E.P. Ripley N Scale that is now sold out and fetches big bucks on ebay. This one makes a nice substitute. Again, for the price, this set is hard to beat. As other reviewers say, N Scale is very small, and best not to be used by little children, as it is somewhat fragile.
