Bachmann is not a toy company - they are a model railroad manufacturer. This is a 1:22.5 scale model of a Baldwin narrow-gauge "ten-wheeler" locomotive like many hundreds that were used in the 19th and early 20th century in many parts of the country - but especially in the west. The "open-ended" passenger coaches cars are also models of real cars that were used in the same time and space. In fact, they're the most accurate models of real wooden coaches available in Large Scale; I use them myself, in Pennsylvania colors. This particular set has extra filigree on the smokestack and other detailing that makes this set particularly compelling. The track that comes with it is made for indoor use only, which means it's fine for a basement or Christmas tree railroad. (Consider Aristo-Craft 6'-diameter or larger curves for outdoors - I use 10'-diameter curves when I have room.) The train itself, though was made to be used outside on garden railroads, and is weather- and rust-resistant. An excellent first choice for a Large Scale railroad. - Paul Race, editor, Family Garden Trains

I chose this particular for two reasons . One Bachmann is a name known for making quality train sets, the one I chose has the classic Western train look that I've seen in westerns.Which has a unique characteristic look.Train met my expectations and more
my Grandson was very excited Christmas morning
Which makes me happy
I feel the deal on Amazon was exceptional when Comparing to others

The locomotive and trailing cars are all plastic, which is okay. The detailing is great and they operate just fine. My beef is with the cheap tracks. They were a nightmare trying to connect them and the radii of the curved tracks must be off a little bit because they pulled when I closed the loop such that they did not lay flat. Overall I like the set, the chugging sound is nice but I'll have to invest in some decent tracks

This was a replacement for a previous train my husband had. He loved it! what's more, our two year old grandson played with it and was dropped several times and continued working without a problem.

My 5 & 7 year old grandsons loved the train. Perfect size for their age. Easy to set up and operate.
