the two legendary comics on one CD, January 25, 2003
This review is from: Back 2 Back (Audio CD)
i give this CD four stars because none of the songs by Roger Miller are the original recordings. Ray's songs are all pulled from his 1969 pseudo-live album GITARZAN, but "Gitarzan" isn't on the CD. (Ray was satirizing the then common thing of live albums by Johnny Cash). Roger Miller is the better respected of the two in popular circles and i've never understood why. the two are great songwriters; they both had serious and funny hits; they both had a soft spot for scat-singing on several recordings (Roger did more); but ol' Roger gets more ink? on this CD you'll hear Roger sing five songs and Ray sing five songs alternating with each other. Roger opens up things with "King of the Road" while Ray follows with the 1969 remake of his 1962 hit "Ahab the Arab". Roger returns with "England Swings" and back and forth until Ray closes things out with his 1961 hit "Jeremiah Peabody". this is another of those 'road' CDs, which is fine for travel but other than that, you'll have all the songs already in other compilations.
