KOKANE - TAKE IT BACK 2 THA CLAP

This is an album that I've personally been waiting for for approximately 1½ years. The album was first supposed to come out in the first quarter of 2005 but ended up being postponed until July 2006. In the meantime though, the "narrator of the ship" Kokane himself had lost interest in the project as he was now busy on his newest (and much better record) Pain Killer'z.
This left producer Fingazz with mixing and mastering the record, which unfortunatly also results in a few short-comings here and there as far as the beats are concerned (though you probably wouldnt even notice this unless you had heard the early version of the record).

Overall it is a very solid record however, and it's really great fun and far better than 97% of the other rap albums released that year (must have laughed my a** off at least the first 3 times I listened to the intro alone). Koka is REALLY on point on this one, both as far as rapping and hooks are concerced. What's really great about it is that there really isnt alot of guest appearences on this here which means Koka can really shine as he is supposed to (Koka is often being overlooked for his rapping skills.)

The guests who do appear howeverm are really being put to excellent use and the names are not to be taken for granted either: Roscoe, Kurupt, 40 Glocc, KMG (from Above The Law), Down and Player. Hell, Frank Nitty even has a little spot on it (though only true west coast fans would know who he is).

All on all this is definately a record worth getting.
If you had to chose between this one and Kokane's new record, Pain Killer'z, Pain Killer'z would definately be the one you should get though.
That one (Pain Killer'z) is just superior to Take It Back 2 Tha Clap in every which way, and simply belongs in every rap collection.
Should you have a few extra bucks saved up you need to pick this one up too though. It's a solid album from top to bottom. First class west coast FUNK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kokane Brought The Funk Upon A Rhyme Back On This CD, November 24, 2006
This review is from: Back 2 Tha Clap (Audio CD)
One of the best CD's to drop in 2006. Kokane brought back the Funk Upon A Rhyme style back on this minus the Cold 187um Production. But the producer "Fingazz" did a great job on this CD. If you are a fan of the early 90's westcoast and dig the old G-Funk sound, you need to check out this CD. Kokane is a legend and kills on all the tracks & hooks.
