Gary U.S. Bonds sounding like Wilson Pickett - ALL GOOD!,
By
This review is from: Back in 20 (Audio CD)
If you just got this album for the song "Fannie Mae" it would be worth it.... it should get nominated for a Grammy as the "kick-ass party soul song of the year"...seriously! Bonds sound a lot like Wilson Pickett circa 1968 on this album which is danged fine thing to sould like. It sounds like it was recorded live with everyone playing at once. You don't get this sort of down-home soul sound with spankin clean digital recording. Got to get dirty and sweaty to sound this good. I got this album because I just got around to watching the Blues Bros. 2000 movie, which isn't very good, but worth watching just to see the musicians and hear the music. Bonds is in the final Battle of the Bands scene and takes a fine solo vocal. I hope this album finds an audience because it deserves to be heard...and danced to.

A great CD by the ledgendary US Bonds. Catches the energy as felt in the live shows and is a definite show case for his party sounds, now with a touch of the blues. Get this CD and see him the next time he's in town.

TONIGHT AT BB KING'S GRILLE!!,

I used to work at The Stone Pony back in the early 80s and last night's live show at BB King's Blues Club was phenomenal! Gary still gets it done & with Southside Johnny & the Jukes as a kicker, the memories flooded back big time. The album is fabulous & in particular "Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks" with Bruce, "Fannie Mae" with Southside, & covers of Otis Redding's "Dreams to Remember" and Delbert McClinton's (I think1?) "Everytime I Roll The Dice" are standouts. Gary & the Roadhouse Rockers did all these in his show & had us jammed against the stage screaming for more! We truly would have "DANCED 'TIL QUARTER TO 3!" (Yep, Gary played that too!) :-)
