This review is from: Back in the 90's (Audio CD)
this album was originally self-released by the band so i heard it awhile ago BUT - i had actually forgotton how great it was. buy it, turn it up, play it at your next party - your friends will thank you. if you like al green, ray charles, any kind of soul/funk you will groove on this record. And, if you want the real treat - see this band live.

Must Listen!,

If you don't have this, or haven't heard it, go out and buy it now. While you're at it, try and find this band's first independent EP release "Payback EP." This is an amazingly catchy and sunny release from a band that sounds like 1/3 rock 1/3 soul/funk and 1/3 blues. After you buy these albums, you will want to see them live-and when you do you'll discover that they have one of the most blistering live sets around. If you like "Solaar" and "The Love That's Inside" on this album, wait until you hear the live versions. Incredible band that deserves attention from the masses, or at least, from you.

HOBEX!,

This band is unbelievable. They were great when a few of them were Dillon Fence...take that lovely sound and multiply it and you've got HOBEX. Greg Humphreys' voice is magical and this funky sound is beauty! Please, if you get a chance, you have to see them live! You don't want the night to end. These guys are like your favorite college friends...you can't help but love them! "Groove Baby" is sweet, "The Love That's Inside" is wonderful! I also recommend any old Dillon Fence album. These guys ARE North Carolina...best of luck guys! They rocked back in Chapel Hill and Raleigh!

There just aren't enough words in the English language to describe the way that Hobex sounds and makes you feel! If you've never heard these guys, you can't fathom what you're missing. From the first track "Back in the 90's" throughout the whole cd, Hobex takes you on a colorful rollercoaster ride of emotion, ranging from the lovestruck admirer of "GrooveBaby", the need to escape your worries and get out of town on "Windows", the should've-listened groove of "I Was Wrong", and the you've-been-warned "Don't Tread on Me". You cannot go wrong with these guys, who've breathed fresh air into the soulful groove and funk of days gone by. Pick up EVERY album by these guys and you will not be disappointed. I guarantee you that you cannot sit still while listening to their flavor, whether you're shaking your booty or just tapping your toes. Do yourself a favor and sign up for the mailing list so that you might one day be lucky enough to catch the Hobex Boys (and gal) live. Much love and respect, KG

People, if you don't get another CD this year, GET THIS ONE! You can't help but dance and sing along with the songs. Bluesy-funk at it's best.

Keep it up Greg!,

Hobex wants you to feel good and dance to their music. That is does indeed, I have seen them here in NC and hope to see them more. Their music is sort of bluesy with funk, great rhythm! and they are their own, they don't try to copy anyone else. This band has the goods to make it, I am looking for them make their break this summer 2000. Try it turned up at the beach, people will begin to smile and ask "who is that?" Listen to a new band thats on its way this year. Try "Solaar" or "The Love thats Inside." You can't help but feel good!

Greg Humphreys is GOD,

Dillon Fance was a fabulous band that few people had the good sense to fall in love with. Time to redeem yourselves...The talented half of said band (Greg Humphreys and the lovely and talented Andy Ware) have formed Hobex, a bluesy pop band wholly worth your lifelong devotion. The disc really lives up to my hype. If you don't immediately see the genius of "Groove Baby" or "Windows" then you deserve the Brittney Spears albums you undoubtedly own.

Groove 'n Soul,
By A Customer
This review is from: Back in the 90's (Audio CD)
Extremely impressive debut that's just plain fun. The lead singer is the talented Greg Humphreys who used to front one of the greatest college bands ever, Chapel Hill, NC's Dillon Fence. Also features some tremendous backing horns from some of the Squirrel Nut Zippers. I dare ANYONE to not like the soul-bounce of "Groove, Baby". I can't wait to see them live...
