Lanae' Hale Review,
This review is from: Back & Forth (MP3 Download)
Centricty Music artist Lanae' Hale has already been making her mark on the music industry...and her album just released today! With music already being featured on iTunes as well as on MTV's "The Hills", it would seem as though Lanae's journey has been a fairytale. But it hasn't.
Lanae' turned to cutting at age 17, which turned into a 3-year long battle. This cycle culminated with Lanae' ready to take a handful of pills one night in her college apartment. However, "There was something deeper in my soul that just wouldn't let me do it," she says. "I can look back at that moment and know that it was God. Some time later I came across Psalm 147:3, `He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.' I asked God `Can you really do that?' because...I desperately wanted to be healed. God was really beginning to use events in my life to...reveal to me that I needed something more. There was a moment when I finally fell on my face and offered the pieces of my life to God." This journey of hope is what comes alive through her first full album, Back and Forth, released today, May 19th. Produced by Mark Hammond and Allen Salmon, this album showcases Lanae' as a singer-songwriter. Fans will not only celebrate her debut, but also the chance to receive one of 30,000 copies FREE until May 23rd. For information on how to receive a free copy, please visit [...]. Lanae's 13-song offering opens with the punchy title track and current single, Back and Forth. This catchy, in-your-face opener notes the inner battle many artists today write about, while approaching it with uniquely accessible lyrics. Much of the album follows suit with tunes such as the brightly guitar-driven, Beautiful Things and Burning Heartbeats, a danceable track with edgy vocals. The upbeat (and radio friendly) Estranged reminds listeners that we are not of this world and Here's My Heart also makes use of her distinctive writing style, while speaking to brokenness. These songs also reveal a voice unmatched by many artists played on radio today. Flowing with a tight, yet powerful vibrato, Lanae's vocals bring about just the right mix of raw, sweet, and soulful moments. This album also shows its sweet side on songs such as Lets Grow Old Together (written to a love) and It's Over. Even softer moments happen on Break My Fall, one of two bonus tracks, featuring Lanae's hauntingly beautiful vocals backed by an acoustic guitar. This contemplative piece asks the Savior to "call my name and heal the wounds of lonely days...and make these pieces into something beautiful." Lanae' proves her voice can shine whatever the feel of the song. This album is certainly not your run-of-the-mill pop. This unrivaled offering is transparent yet genuine, energetic yet thoughtful. Lanae' says, "I felt a pull from God that I had to share my story, but I was fighting it. `Are you kidding? I don't want to air my dirty laundry in public!' But God was pretty specific: `No, I need you to share your story.'" And we're glad she is.

Lanae' Hale [Back & Forth],
By
This review is from: Back & Forth (MP3 Download)
Out of Gainesville Florida, Lanae' Hale who developed her style by playing worship in church and trying out her songs in coffeehouses, is the latest addition at Centricity records. Like a lot of young women Lanae' felt the enormous pressure of living up to our material world's 21st century expectations and sometimes that pressure sweeps you into a dark corner. "I was into cutting and if not for the grace of God I may not have made it through. It's hard to explain but sometimes you don't like yourself and do bad things to yourself, such as cutting. If I can reach out to God and change then others can as well. More than anything else, I would like to help young girls through my own music and my own testimony."
Knowing Lanae's background and having 3 young daughters myself, I found this album and the message of redemption and God's love bringing light and hope out of darkness to be compelling. The title song "Back & Forth" is all about that theme of redemption. Here's the chorus: "If I could, than I would run across the sea, So You'd speak to me, Back and forth, the waves keep crashing, Hold on, my head, I keep on sinking, I need Your hand to steady me to bring Your peace to this storm". The song is so catchy and personal, I can't get enough of listening to Lanae's testimony and amazing singing voice. "Beautiful Things" sticks with the theme of redemption and the cry to "sing in the rain, love without pain, and live everyday". "Here's My Heart" is another one of my favorite songs and has the cry of my heart to "know me well and change me deeply". The spiritual messages are subtle yet strong and the album listens like an autobiography of Lanae's life. She has a couple of songs about her marriage, including "Let's Grow Old Together" and "Headed Home" which are also stand-out songs on the album. As I've been married for fifteen years, the beauty of the husband and wife relationship is well-captured in these great songs. This is a great album. I am very impressed by Lanae's ability to blend messages of love, redemption and hope throughout her story with catchy melodies and a fantastic singing style. If you like Jewel, Sheryl Crow and Plumb, you'll love Lanae' Hale's album "Back & Forth".

I had heard a couple of Lanae Hale's songs on my Pandora account. Since this CD was such a good price, I decided to go ahead and buy it. I'm so glad I did. There is one song near the end that I typically skip over, but that is generally true for any CD. If you have heard any of Lanae's songs and like them, you will like this CD.
