I received on of these as a gag gift because I like caramel apples so much. It is one of my kitchen favorites. It is very easy to make caramel apples and I have used it for other things, too. As a gag I dipped Triscuits in dark chocolate for my sister's boyfriend. He loved them so much I had to dip 200 of them for their wedding reception. By using the microwave there is hardly any mess and the fork that comes with it is worth it's weight in gold. I hunted for these for months and when I found them I bought 4 so I could give them as gifts. Not as gag gifts anymore. When my friends ask me where I got it, I know what they will be getting for their birthday.

Perfect for Dipping Cake Balls,

I'd been looking for an easier way to coat the cake balls that I make fairly frequently, and this was IT! For those of you who don't know what cake balls are, they're sort of like a homemade truffle that you can make with endless combinations. You bake any flavor of cake that you want and, while it's still warm, crumble it up in a big mixing bowl. Then you stir in a container of complementary frosting until it's all a gooey mess, and form it all into little truffle-sized balls. Cool them, even freeze them, so they'll be easier to dip. Then, and this is where this handy little device excels, you melt chocolate/peanut butter/cherry/butterscotch chips with a bit of shortening or melt bark in the microwave and use the little dipper to dip the balls. I used to use toothpicks or an egg separator, but this is perfect in that it isn't solid on the bottom and the coating can just drip through. I LOVE IT, and have given to several of my cake-ball-making friends, one of whom served a few hundred at her wedding and would have been miserable without this dipping set.

Ok it's a toy for making carmaled apples. Or you can also use to melt carmels yours or commercial bought ones with wrappers removed...also you can find blocks of carmel also but anyway you melt the carmels in the microwave couldn't be more simple and you can use it as a dipper for pieces of dunk the whole apple into the carmel and then let set up on wax paper and stick with a stick and enjoy like an oldfashion carmel apple. I wish it was smaller but for plastic seems sturdy enough and looks like it should hold up over time. I have their popcorn popper for microwave too. Not so happy with it but is that my microwave or the popper or the combination of the two. Some peoples microwaves work geat with the popper others like mine not so hot.

This is just perfect for getting your apples covered with the caramel. You don't have to worry about using your own pan and getting it all sticky! This is made for dipping all things. I'm so glad I got this.

I won't lie, I haven't used this yet. It seems to be very sturdy plastic. I like that I have something separate designed for melting chocolate etc...It will be the "go to" item for my kids for the holidays. From October with caramel apples and to February with chocolate covered strawberries... it will serve a lot of use in my house.
(I bought it when I saw it, because it is such a bargain.)

I'm making chocolate caramel apples and thought I'd give this a try since it was so inexpensive. This works great with the caramel. It's the perfect size for the larger apples I use and keeps the caramel warm for awhile. I've had no problems with burning it or anything. I'm sure if you microwave it too long without stirring in between, you could, but it's working great for me! I haven't tried it with chocolates yet.

I have to confess... I haven't actually used this, but I did want to write a review that answers a couple of the questions I had prior to purchasing. I was looking for a couple of fun, end-of-year teacher gifts, and wanted to stick with the 'apple for the teacher' theme. Came across this apple dipper and thought it would be perfect... though I had a couple of questions that are not answered in the description, I opted to order a couple and I'm so glad I did!!
First, the 'set' does come in a box... a nice box that says exactly what the product is, describes what it can be used for (along with foods other than apples), and has pictures on the different sides of the box showing the basic instructions, along with some yummy-looking 'finished' candy apples. I had been a little nervous that the apple dipper might arrive in some type of baggie (not really an ideal way to present a gift), and no real description of what it actually is (would be a little hard to figure out without some type of description). So again, I was really pleased with the packaging... it is just as I'd hoped. Along with the description, photos and simple instructions on the outside of the box, there is a small booklet inside that has care instructions and tips, directions for caramel-dipped apples, chocolate double-dipped apples, gourmet apple toppings.... along with various suggestions and tips for toppings, etc. It is a very basic 'user's guide' booklet... but something I'm glad is included. Assuming the apple dipper functions as stated, I think it is a great gift idea at a very reasonable price point, and I've already ordered two more for next year's teacher gifts! |
