Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Perfect for anyone who loves to curl up with a bowl of popcorn and watch movies, this stovetop popcorn popper makes up to 6 quarts of theater-style popcorn in just three minutes. The unit features a sturdy, even-heating aluminum pan with a clip-on aluminum lid and a stay-cool wooden handle. Simply add 1 to 3 tablespoons of oil and a 1/2 cup of popcorn to the popper and place it on the stovetop. Slowly and continuously turn the hand crank on the handle, which spins the internal stainless-steel stirring mechanism and keeps the corn moving across the bottom of the pan for even heat and oil distribution. The popper's lid contains steam vents to help keep the popcorn dry and crisp. Pour the popcorn into a bowl, then have fun adding your favorite toppings--everything from salt and melted butter to brewer's yeast, grated Parmesan, or Cajun seasonings. When finished, simply remove the lid and wipe out the popper with a paper towel, then store the lightweight popper for later use, or better yet, keep it on the stovetop for a healthy snack any time. The popcorn popper measures approximately 10 by 17 by 8 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

2.0 out of 5 stars I went with the cheaper version, and guess what? It's CHEAP, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Back to Basics PC17551 Aluminum Stovetop 6-Quart Popcorn Popper (Kitchen)
I opted for this aluminum popper instead of the stainless steel. Lesson learned. It does pop almost all of the corn. It's kind of fun to use. Guests and kids think it's cool. The popcorn it makes sure does taste good. Fits in the dishwasher.

The lid fits properly for about the first week, then never again. Occasionally I have to fiddle with the gears to get it going again. The thin aluminum pan has become warped and no longer heats evenly.

You get what you pay for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Popcorn The Old Fashion Way, July 5, 2008

This review is from: Back to Basics PC17551 Aluminum Stovetop 6-Quart Popcorn Popper (Kitchen)
This popper works fairly well. Almost all the corn pops. The only problem is getting the lid to snap on right. It takes a while to get everything in place. The lid does not close tight after first use but still works. It cleans up okay and if anything gets burnt on the bottom, it scrubs clean with an S.O.S pad. I would recommend this product to anyone that likes to make popcorn the old fashioned way. It saves your burner and pan from scratches.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love my popper, but others complaints are true, I admit!, February 6, 2010

This review is from: Back to Basics PC17551 Aluminum Stovetop 6-Quart Popcorn Popper (Kitchen)
The problems with the lid on this popper as stated in other reviews are true. I just don't think its that big a deal. I can still get mine to snap on fine (there's a little hole on one side that a rod in the top fits in, and a clip under the wood handle on the exact opposite side of the pot that you can see in the picture) the clip snaps fine but the flapping lids don't perfectly line up after the first week of use. My crank sometimes sticks, I have to put a little extra into the crank but nothing that prevents the popcorn from being perfect. As far as the lid flaps not staying down, I just wear a oven mitt on my left hand and hold the top down and crank with my right hand. The lids don't exactly stay down and touch the rim of the pot, but there isn't this big gap like the lid won't close at all. Oil will fly out of the holes and joints at the center of the lid when the popping first starts (this is after the lid starts to not fit exactly the way it should anymore) but since I have the mitt on I just cover the holes with the mitt. I love this popper but I see that whirly-pop has better reviews in regards to the lid so when I replace my back to the basics model I will try that one to compare. I will never buy anything but a stove-top popper like this ever again, I will even purchase this one again if it means I don't ever have to eat microwave popcorn again. You will need a cleaning brush to clean the top after the oil builds up over time due to use, depending on how often you use it. Notice how even bad reviews say the popcorn pops beautifully....if you are a stickler for things working EXACTLY THE WAY THE COMPANY SAYS IT SHOULD (which, when you think, nothing ever really does, at least not forever) then you probably will be disappointed with the lid, but if you are a little flexible, you still will say this product is worth it. I think I'm gonna try a stainless steel model next though.
