3.0 out of 5 stars I love it with one reservation!
This little device works very well as long as you have the right ratio of ice to liquids and with a bit of practice it's Great!

Except one problem:
After a month or so of use two or three times a week, the little nubs on the side of the cup that press the switch to start the motor break off! The cup is then not usable because the blender won't start...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great slushies, but be gentle..., February 8, 2008

I bought this slushie maker as an impulse buy as I was looking for snack alternatives during a time when I was trying to lose weight, and I don't fully regret it at all. It makes wonderful slushies in no time, is easy to clean, but it is helpful to use smaller ice-cubes. Larger ones tend to not circulate as well in the cup and you'll end up shaking the cup to break the log-jam free.

As an extra bonus to this review, I'll pass along a suggestion for low-calorie slushies: instead of the high-calorie sugary syrups, use a small shot of sugar-free maple syrup (for sweetness and to create the smooth texture of a slushie) and add half of a 5 calorie Crystal Light On The Go packet. I prefer the strawberry or cherry. When you add the syrup and the Crystal Light, you only have maybe 25 or 30 calories, which is really nothing for a delicious and quick slushie.

Ok, I digress. I have but one caveat: There are two small plastic tabs on the sides of the cup which lock it into the motorized base and turn on the power. After a week or two of use, I broke one of the tabs off as I was inserting them into the base... fortunately only one tab is required to activate the motor so I can still make slushies, but if this second tab breaks, I will have to buy another slushie maker. I've never been the most gentle boy with my toys, so just be gentle with yours and all should be well. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile purchase., June 29, 2009
In fact, I'm drinking one now!

A friend invited us to dinner and made us slushies for desert with this device, purchased from a local big box store (whose name rhymes with mal-wart). Anyway, the slushies were delicious, made with with Nescafe Ice Java ([...]).

A few days later, while at another big box store (whose name rhymes with gartet), I found one for the right price, and bought it and 3 more cups (we're a family of 4). At another store we found some Nescafe and a bag of ice. We've been making smoothies every day since. We've made them with the Nescafe, chocolate milk, malted milk powder, pina colada mix, and my current beverage, a concoction made with strawberry slushie powder, milk, and frozen srawberries and banana instead of the ice.

Protip: buy the 7-11 aluminum slurpee straws! Eco-friendly and they stay cold. Plus the larger bore eliminates the need for any spoon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would be perfect if it could handle "regular" ice - not just crushed, May 31, 2008

This is a great machine. My kids love it and clean up is a breeze. My only complaint is that it can't crush large pieces of ice. Since we don't have crushed on hand we end up trying to break up regular cubes before they even go in the machine (which kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?) Even so, we love it.
We use flavor ice pops (the kind they sell at room temperature at the grocery store) as the syrup. The kids can make differnt flavor combinations and it's much, much cheaper than buying several different full size syrup bottles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slushie Express Rocks!, June 24, 2007

I love this product! Previously, I purchased the Slush Ease, which is more expensive and kind of cumbersome. The big Slush Ease makes a great slushee, but using it and cleaning up requires lots of time and a big sink (for the cleanup of all the parts). I'm all about simplicity, so......I started looking for an easier slushee maker. I found the Slushie Express for 15 dollars. It comes with a great slushee cup that screws into the ice blender. All you have to do is add syrup, water and ice (the fill lines are right on the cup), screw on the bladed lid, flip it onto the unit, twist it about a quarter turn, and the motor whips up a slushee very quickly. This is so easy and I know we will use the A LOT! Plus, you can also purchase more of the slushee cups in a variety of colors. They come with a permanent, solid, straw, with a spoon built into the bottom of the straw. The cups are nice and wide, for easy cleanup. Great product!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful quick slushy maker, May 4, 2009

I have been looking for a quick, easy way to make smoothies, slushies, and this is it. Cleanup is super quick and it crushes the ice better than most. No need to even pour into another glass unless you want to.

Based on all the previous reviews this thing sounded awesome. It didn't disappoint, this thing rocks! It crushes the ice better than anything I've ever used before. I can't comment on how long it will last before the motor goes out - but I am hoping a long time because I just love this thing. I'm seriously contemplating getting one and sticking it away as a backup should anything happen to the first one!

Except one problem:
After a month or so of use two or three times a week, the little nubs on the side of the cup that press the switch to start the motor break off! The cup is then not usable because the blender won't start. There are two nubs on the cup so I turned it around. That worked for another week then it broke. I bought another cup and tried to be careful about how I used it but it broke too. By then the cups weren't available in my local store and the blender went into storage 'till next year when I hope this seasonal item will be available again.

This machine is small but it acts like a GIANT. I love the machine. It makes slushie in less than a minute more like in Seconds. Easy to clean, Durable cups with spoon straw. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice Slushie maker. Another plus is it is small enough to pack and take with you even on vacation.

Hey this is really fun!!!
If you like a lite and great tasting treat with out all the cals..try this little wonder of a machine. On "HOT" and "HUMID" days this is really great or even if your just sitting back watching TV and want a treat. What ever your choices are..it's so much fun to make and kids get a real kick out of it too. No mess what so ever and I just fell in love with ours. We received it as a gift and it now is my families favorite treat. Just toss in some flavors and 10 regular ice cubes from the standard trays in the freezer..thats all and your done. Go to the web site and order more cups with the straws included for under $4 to be able to make more then one at a time. No need to use all those fancy syrups, some fruit juice, cola, or we even used frozen orange juice, what ever you have on hand works and it tasts great!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothies Galore, July 31, 2007
This review is from: Back to Basics SITSELP Slushie Express (Kitchen)
I am a smoothie freak. I tend to drink one or two a day, so having a blender that can make smoothies with ease is very important in my life. Enter the Slushie Express. The Bullet that had been given to me as a gift died after just two weeks, and I was left smoothieless. The Bullet warrenty does not apply if it's given as a gift, so I was left high and dry.
I bought the Slushie Express on a whim, figuring that it was cheap, so if it died it would be no great loss (I also read all of the warrenty information, and stapeled my reciept to the book so that I could get a replacement if it ever died). Much to my amazement, this is the best smoothie maker that I have ever tried. If you follow the lines on the side of the cup, and the directions in the book, it makes a perfect smoothie. Best of all, it only takes about 10-15 seconds to blend! I don't know how long it will last, but I have my warrenty so I am sure to get at least a year out of it. Not bad for 15 bucks of investment :)
If you like smoothies or slushies, I would definately get this!
