Life is Rough,
By Rose Teragram (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back from Betrayal: Saving a Marriage, a Family, a Life (Hardcover)
I saw this couple on Oprah and I admired them for staying together and when Suzy was confronted by someone in the audience about "Why would you stay with someone who cheated on you for 30 years?" Suzy (and Oprah) both said it is not for anyone to decide but you. You need to "follow your heart." Having gone through similar pain- only worse (my husband was with men and now we are both HIV positive), I wanted to see how she survived her ordeal. Although I am sure her pain was terrible, everyone's pain is their own and you can't compare, it bothered me that she had so many places to go for help AND the money to do it so easily. I found it tiresome to read about all the beautiful places they were able to travel to and still try to work on their marriage. What about us other folks who are stuck at home because we are paying so much money to our therapists to help us with this mess, that we can't afford to do anything? I thought Suzy did a good job of learning to take care of herself first...we all must do that in order to survive. But she sure did it by spending a lot of money. I'd like to write a book for the common woman who has to cope with what little means she has to do it with. I hope I live long enough to write that book.

what a wimp !!!!,

After seeing the oprah show I couldn't wait to read this book ! It's like a fairy tale version of infidelity .Where's the real pain ? Where's the rage most women feel after this kind of betrayal ? Suzy is one giant wimp ! She looked the other way for years so as not to ruin her life style .I'd work on the marriage but first Burton would be on the couch for months and his riding clothes would probably be shredded .He's also understand that if he ever so much as thought about cheating again his belongings would be on the lawn and the locks would be changed .Suzy "s book has about as much emotion in it as flat ginger ale .Maybe sometime she'll write a real book about the betrayal .Complete with spending days in bed crying ,screaming at Burton until she was hoarse and opening his mail to make sure this is not happening again .That's reality to most women who have dealt with infidelity .Not this fairytale !!!

Hope and healing for couples facing infidelity,
By Julie C. (Charlevoix, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back from Betrayal: Saving a Marriage, a Family, a Life (Hardcover)
This book is an amazing diary of a married woman's struggle to survive infidelity and reclaim herself. It also gives a guide for saving the marriage. It is well written and reads easily. Suzy presents her journey in a straight forward non-judgmental way that most people can identify with. It also provides a bibliography filled with different places to go for help if this experience happens to you. SHe is intensely honest and transparent with her experience and provides hope for others. In addition, her husband writes an afterword that provides his point of view for the reasons behind his behavior and how he is coping with the changes that he needed to make to save the marriage.

Understanding Infidelity,
By Tina (White Lake, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back from Betrayal: Saving a Marriage, a Family, a Life (Hardcover)
I found Suzy Farbman's book to be beautifully written as well as helpful. I felt as if I could relate somewhat, being a survivor of an unfaithful father who was hardly ever around. I found her thoughts and feelings very true to home. This book has helped me to better understand my own insecurities and issues about infidelity. This is a MUST READ for anyone. It does not only help to understand why infidelity occurs, but it also teaches about self love and self respect. I see Burt & Suzy's love for each other continuing to grow for years to come.

1. Incredible Journey 2. Negativity only begets negativity,
By sharon (Detroit, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back from Betrayal: Saving a Marriage, a Family, a Life (Hardcover)
First off, I would like to say that this book was wonderful. Suzy is an incredibly talented writer, and I hope that her story will aid others who find themselves in similar situations. I think it is amazing that someone would share such a personal aspect of their life with the world. I appreciate Suzy sharing her struggle to help others. Secondly, I would like to say that the negative feedback below seems to have nothing to do with this incredible book, but rather, seems based upon personal bias. I don't appreciate reviews which instead of reviewing the material, they review the person who wrote it. Negativity is a chain reaction, and grows exponentially when given the soapbox to do so. Finishing on a positive note, this is a fantastic, honest, introspective look into healing & love.

Think you'd NEVER stay with a cheating spouse? Read this one,

Farbman thought she'd go, too. But take a 30 year marriage, complete with kids and then consider that your husband has been cheating - and not once, but repeatedly, including one long-term affair, lasting years. Think you'd walk right out the door (or boot him out?)Read this book and you might reconsider your position, as Farbman reveals, in heartbreaking detail, what she went through and how she came out the other side. She doesn't hold anything back, from the first inklings of suspicion to the wrenching certainty that her husband had cheated on her. It is a soul-searing account of a hellish time, but one that is impossible to put down.

More specific advice needed,

Suzy's book does tell a moving story of an all too familiar story of infidelity and perhaps of sex addiction. Unfortunately, the book gives few specifics that can be helpful to readers who need more support than just their story retold in print. Some may have been seeking the book by Dr. Jennifer Schneider with same title Back From Betrayal. Dr. Schneider's Back From Betryal offers a user friendly guide through the very painful and difficult ordeal of infidelity, many practical tips for self care, support in communities when one has few financial resources, and ways to rebuild trust in oneself and the relationship. Both books would help anyone trying to survive the betrayal of infidelity.

Great story - so well written,

This review is from: Back from Betrayal: Saving a Marriage, a Family, a Life (Hardcover)
This book is fantastic. Farbman tells a story that is compelling. The book brought out a host of emotions for me, all of this and the main topic of infidelity is not an issue in my life. Farbman's is so well written that at times I thought I was reading fiction. Any person can learn from the Farbman's journey. This book transcends the main topic.

Thanks Suzy!,

My husband was unfaithful to me. Reading Suzy's book 'Back from Betrayal' felt like I had a friend right there with me who understood exactly those dark moments noone else could possibly understand unless they have been through their own husband's infidelity. I admire her honesty and showing that even she too can be less than perfect. She could have chose not to show her own judgemental nature but she had the integrity to let her own weaknesses show. That is courageous. I commend her for that. Burt's addition to the book was very useful to me also. It helped me understand why men might behave this way and brought some healing in that aspect. I would consider this a 'must read' for anyone going through the betrayal of their spouse and/or anyone contemplating being unfaithful.
