5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best australian novels I ever read.
I loved the story line and the setting. I wish I could find more romance novels on australia.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty darn good
Yes, it was a silly romance novel, but it was very interesting historically and the most of the characters were realistic, except for the one who went to war and lost his arm, I don't remember his name. I thought it was a good book.

Absolutely the best book I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. ( My first book written by Barbara Bickmore). I've passed it on to seven friends and we are all looking forward to the newest novel. We have since all read every word of each book!! Thank-you for such a pleasant and "dreamy" form of entertainment!

Finally, a character you actually won't mind reading about for hours. This book has a exciting and fast-paced story, with the people involved written well and interestingly. This book is not silly nor slow. Something of great importence to me. Well done, Ms. Bickmore!

I read this book because I loved the author's "East of the Sun". I had read a few other books by her that had been good but no where near as good as "East". This book however met the standard maybe even being better. In all of the books the author uses the same formula. A Woman ging off to find herself pretty much either from heartache or because she "wants" more. The author does a great job though of making you not care you have read this same formula numerous times. She takes you to these places and makes you feel part of them. The details she gives makes you think you are right there sweating in the outback. This particular book was set in the 30's -40's. I did feel like there were some references that maybe didn't fit that timeline but other that it was a great read. The description is perfect so I won't go into that. I wanted my review to stress what type of book it is. Its not a "fluff" book -for me it was a book that I wanted to concentrate on -I cared about the characters-I wanted to keep reading and thought of it when I couldn't read. I think this book was so enjoyable because I could see myself "there". This was a great read and I cannot say enough about it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read - Page-Turner, July 24, 2005

I really enjoyed this book. It was not only historically interesting, but the characters were interesting. I couldn't put the book down, I had to keep reading to see what would happen next. Normally, I am a slow reader, but I read this book within a couple of days. Would recommend it to anyone. Would like to find more books of this type about Australia.

This author has written a couple of books about Australia. Her research is inept. She creates highly improbable/impossible situations and her rationale is weak. I don't know how her editor could let her get away with something so incredulus. As an example--"they landed the plane on top a hill in pouring rain some twelve miles from the station (ranch) house then removing their shoes (great idea) walked twelve miles through mud and scrub, crossed a fast moving flooded river, picked up a sick baby which was carried in a sling through the same pouring rain and walked back the same twelve miles to the plane-twenty four miles in six hours. She's a great surgeon too. Who else could repair an aorta in the chest cut by a bullet while a couple of ranch hands "held back the bones" and on the ranch house floor too.

This heroine is in love is when the man is married to someone else. Interesting how the author portrays the ones involved in incest, affairs and having abortions as the good guys and gals.
