Editorial Reviews

When a paranormal research team investigates a haunting inside a home on Port Island, a sparsely inhabited island off the Maine coast, they learn that it is eerily similar to the plot of a classic television show. This 90-minute supernatural thriller opens with a gripping scene of terror. A group of amateur videographers attempt to capture a seemingly supernatural force within the remote island home. When the paranormal research team investigates the haunting, they discover the remains of the amateur videographers and proof of the legendary haunting captured on video. While one member of the team believes the haunting is only "made for TV" fiction, the investigation reveals an encounter with a sinister supernatural force, proving just how real it all is. The film is Blair Witch Project meets Amityville Horror.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lame May 27, 2012
Format:Amazon Instant Video
This movie is no where near the likes of Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity. Amateur acting, audio, make up, script - did I say acting? I've seen 1950's wolfman B movies more put together that this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don.t bother July 21, 2012

As a horror fan I watch this genre as often as possible. This is NOT a movie for horror fans. Terrible story line, poor acting and never a truly scary moment. Pass on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!! June 24, 2012
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
This is a horrible movie! Worst I've seen in a long time! The acting is painful to watch and listen to! God awful movie! It's as if someone walked down the street and grabbed people randomly with no acting experience or skill whatsoever! There was literally no plot! God awful movie! I love movies. I love independent movies! But this was hideous! I want my money back for this order!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars I think this is my first 1 star review... July 16, 2013
By LM
Format:DVD
Really, I cannot give this even two stars even tho my heart screams out to be kind.

This movie is ... well... to BE kind, one I will NEVER watch again. I like to purposely select "bad" movies now and again, and I am in that phase. But usually I find at least a few redeeming factors in them.

Sadly, this was not the case with this film. Not only was the music annoying and misplaced (as another reviewer pointed out) but other effects were just as bad - the "echoing" of statements the characters made as they came closer to their destination, the "drama" of one of the lead characters and her bad marriage, and the "history" of the place to be investigated.

SPOILERISH, IF IT CAN REALLY BE CALLED THAT IN THIS CASE ------

The movie ends up going nowhere. They all arrive, talk to a realtor, go to the house, blather on a bit about nothing in particular, and it all adds up to nothing, really. I guess there was supposed to be a "climax" at least of sorts, but I never felt it. It just seemed to end on the biggest BLAH note in history.

And yes, the acting was BAD. Wooden, poorly done, the whole amateur works. While this is understandable to a degree, this problem was made worse by the dialogue. Using phrases like, "Don't you know, my dear?", which is usually professional and comes off well did not come off well at all when the person delivering the line is incapable of doing so. It feels and sounds like it was read dead-pan off of a cue card. And that impression was there all along. Cue-card feel, wooden acting, dialog that was bad, but better than the acting, and all the little plot lines that went absolute nowhere. It was like a bad rip-off of the Winchester Mystery House. At least that place has real mystery and appeal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should have been back to the drawing board May 13, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
Back to the Beyond is one of the most mediocre films I have ever seen. I actually enjoy watching incredibly bad movies, but most people probably won't last more than five minutes into this one. The dialogue is forced and stilted, and the acting is abysmal. I hate to be so cruel to a group of indie filmmakers, but facts are facts: I don't think I've ever seen more amateurish acting - and it comes from every single actor and actress in the film. Useless montages backed by odd and disjointed music, apparently used to pad a story that could not even sustain itself for an hour, makes the viewing experience even worse. I know the budget was only 25K - 30K, but that's really no excuse for putting out a product this overwhelmingly bad.

I like the idea the filmmakers had of making something of a sequel to an episode of One Step Beyond, but that's mainly because I love that old show and rank it above The Twilight Zone. The episode referenced here is "The Captain's Guests," a season one episode that aired in 1959. In that story, a couple rents a majestic but "unfriendly" old house in which a belligerent old sea captain murdered his wife and her supposed lover. The husband basically gets possessed by the sea captain's spirit, undergoing a remarkable transformation that was definitely one step beyond explainable. Back to the present, another couple now lives on the property and is experiencing problems. A team of paranormal investigators is called in to investigate whether the place is truly haunted. Unfortunately, that team is the P.A.R.A. team, a dysfunctional group of yahoos who continually bicker back and forth and never investigate a single thing once they finally arrive at the house (halfway through the mercifully short film).

1.0 out of 5 stars Yet another paranormal movie April 25, 2013
By Sean D
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I really get a kick out of these movies (note the sarcasm). "Oh my God, I think something was considering showing itself!" or "I think something might have almost thought about touching me." In other words, don't waste your time with this one. Total fabrication with atrocious acting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Go Back to the Beyond and Stay There! July 23, 2014
By Seeker
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I concur with those who have described this "film" as abismal. The acting is beyond bad, my high school students do a superior job in comparison to this and the comparison is rather an insult to the students. I wish I had read the reviews before selecting this to view. I kept hoping it would get better but the tedium finally caused me to just end it, put myself out of this misery. I feel bad for the backers of such a dog. This is an even bigger joke than the Blair Witch Project. If this was a student film I hope they were failed and sent away. I can't believe Amazon would offer such tripe as a selection to paying customers (Amazon Prime). The only saving grace was the movie cover. It looked interesting despite the hokey title.
