5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible CD, July 30, 2002

This review is from: Back In The Bottle (Audio CD)
Never have I written a review for an album, yet never have I thought an album deserve to be heard more than this one. The multi-dimensional masterpiece that is Back in The Bottle combines beautifully intricate acoustic music with stellar lyrics sung with passion and truth. From the wise words of "Someone" to the playful, raw tone of "Suddenly not alone" this album has everything. Having only heard brief tidbits of Back In the Bottle, my expectations were that the album would have only a few good songs. But when I ordered the album for myself and listened to it on a ride back from the gym, I was so intrigued that I drove past my house so that I could hear the entire album. Every song contributes to the complexity and broad range of emotion and music that this album contains.
Tammany Hall has quickly become my favorite band, and this album does not leave my CD player nor do its songs leave my guitar. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys emerged into the popular music scene soon, but it would also be tragic because the thought of making this music seem trite and overplayed to the likes of John Mayer's Room For Squares would destroy the rare beauty found on this album. I definitely reccomend this album to anybody and everybody.

5.0 out of 5 stars Had given up on music until..., March 21, 2003

Tammany Hall NYC is incredible. I own over 800 CDs and for the past 6 months haven't bought a single piece of music because nothing out there was of interest to me. Until, I heard this band on HBO. It took forever for me to figure out who they were. I bought their album immediately and it is all I listen to. They have instantly become one of my favorite bands. Like other reviewers have written, every song can stand alone, not one song sounds like the next. The music is unlike any I've ever heard before. I highly recommend this album if you're looking for something that you didn't believe was even out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, November 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Back In The Bottle (Audio CD)
I absolutely LOVE this band. This is the kind of music that you not only hear but feel. To the individual who what wondering about what song was on the HBO commercial, it is called Waiting For You, which is a remake of Waiting For Jane. The entire song is the same except they replaced Jane with You in the title and lyrics. Either version is great. I only hope more people come to learn about this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff!, November 7, 2002

Great Album!! A must if you like laid-back music with great guitar work and good lyrics. It's a damn shame they aren't more known. Once they do sign with a label they will be a big hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAITING IS THE HARDEST PART, October 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Back In The Bottle (Audio CD)
Actually, I'm trying to find the song that is used on the HBO season promotion of upcoming shows.
The song is about "waiting".
Anybody know the name of the song, and if it is on one of these Tammanny Hall albums ?
If the rest of the album is as good as this song, it must be excellent.

EVERYONE SHOULD BUY THIS ALBUM NOW, BEFORE THEY WILL GET SOLD OUT. BECUASE ONCE THESE GUYS GO BIG. THERE IS NO STOPPING THEM. I DON'T PERSONALLY KNOW STEVE O'REILLY (LEAD SINGER) BUT I'VE MET PEOPLE THAT HAVE AND THEY ONLY HAVE GREAT THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HIM AND HIS MUCIAL CAREER. THIS GUY HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT IN THE BIG LEAGUE.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Subdued Tour de Force, July 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Back In The Bottle (Audio CD)
I have heard very few albums which make my hair stand on end. This is one of those few. It is an amazing work, able to create tension and excitement without overblown production and special effects. The end of "Back in the Bottle" has some of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies uttered in years. "Cindy" and "Wait For Jane" can bring you to your feet without a rhythm section. On "First Night" the band explores the waltz with incredible ease. "Andy Climb Down" is creepy and poignant at the same time. When O'reily sings "I can't breathe anymore," I feel the air leave my own lungs. Production-wise, it is a Gabriel-esque masterwork. If this were a movie, it would not be T2. It is more akin to Schindler's List... All at once gripping, haunting, wistful...and in the end, beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Keep Me From Praisin', August 8, 2002
By

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Tammany Hall is raw emotional power. The Beatles may be my favorite band, but few of their songs go as deep and give me chills down my spine like Tammany Hall's music. Every one of their songs is unique in it's power and emotion. There are plenty of songs I like to listen to because the tunes are catchy, but when I listen to Tammany Hall, I know what the true art of music making is. Steve O'Reilly's voice is as unique as Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, and John Lennon's. Those of us who already have "Back in the Bottle" only have to wait before Tammany Hall achieves the recognition it deserves from the entire true music loveing population. If you are considering buying this album, quite considering and buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Great CD, July 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Back In The Bottle (Audio CD)
THNYC is amazing. This CD has the type of music that you don't get sick of listening to, but always has a familiar element to it. O'Reilly's voice is magnificient; in songs like 'Wait for Jane' and 'Wintertime' I think he really shows his potential not only in range but also in feel. He can go from prolific, to haunting, to sweet. Consequently, the songs range from pop-ish ('Cindy'), to depressing ('Delicious Melancholy'). This CD, this band is really for the ages. THNYC shows its true breadth and focus with this CD. If you've gotten as far as you have already in thinking to buy this CD, just do it. You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music editor: Spin, June 15, 2000

Gripping, Haunting and beautiful.THNYC spearheads the changing face of rock. Appropriately tender on songs like "First night", sardonic and devilish on the anthemic "Andy Climb Down", Steve O'Reilly's voice is enchanting, wicked, and loverly. "back in the bottle" is a triple threat--Dylanesque lyricism, Aron Copland's melodies, and a healthy dose of "take that Reagan" raw energy meet Brian Eno. Get the goods
