Back on Top begins the series about three women, Sherise, Erica, and Billie, best friends who grew up together in Southeast DC. All three have vowed that they will never return. Each woman is trying to climb the social and career ladder within Capitol Hill. Sherise is a mother and a wife who has flirted her way to the top. Once she meets a high profile government executive, Sherise must choose between her needs and her family. Erica would like to put the streets behind her, but her ex-hustler boyfriend is having a hard time letting the streets go. When Erica gets an unexpected promotion, her boyfriend, Terrell, sees her boss as a hustle that can not be passed up. Billie has sold her values to take on a higher paying job after divorcing her cheating husband. When he begins to use his daughter as a means to stay in Billie's life and bed, Billie now has to find a way to get rid of him for good. This book was a page turner. Winters has begun a new series of drama and scandal that can not be ignored. These girls have a bond that can not be broken and they will do anything to protect each other. This book is well written and will definitely leave you wanting more. If you enjoyed the View Park novels, then you will enjoy this. If you haven't read them, then you may want to pick those up as well.

Returning to work after having a child can be a little difficult with the added responsibilities, but Sherise Robinson knew how to return and be on her top game in Angela Winters' Back On Top.

Career ambitions and all that it entailed helped to push Sherise into making decisions concerning her job and making sure she was on top and stayed there, even if she had to pull out her old flirtatious ways to get there. As much as she considered her husband, Justin, and their beautiful new baby, there was no way Sherise could take anything less.

Billie, one of Sherise's best friends, was having issues with her ex-husband and his controlling ways while trying to maintain the "good girl" image she portrayed and being the peace maker between Sherise and their friend Erica. Throw in trust issues Erica was having with her fiancé, and the antics he pulled, it was a wonder either of them could tell which way was up. Sherise, Billie and Erica grew up together, and found themselves working professionally in an indirect way, but how they handled challenges back in the `hood would not help them in the workplace.

Will Sherise and her friends find a resolve to all of their issues, or will their actions destroy not only careers, but lives?

I enjoyed reading Back On Top because each page had me turning to find out what would happen next. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and drama stories.

Sherise, Billie and Erica have known each other since they were kids. They have been through everything together...the good, the bad and the ugly. Sherise is career-oriented, but when she has a baby, her husband tries to talk her into being a stay-at-home mom. Sherise is willing to compromise, but refuses to stay at home. She loves the hustle and bustle of her job with all the movers and shakers of Washington, D.C. When a position opens up that could put her closer to the White House, Sherise is determined to do whatever she needs to do to get the job, even if it means flirting a little...or a lot! But what happens when things go too far?

Billie is still dealing with the hurt and betrayal of her husband leaving her for another woman, even though he cannot seem to leave her alone. For some reason she cannot shake the feelings of attraction she has for him, even when he is being nasty and hateful to her. Every time she gives in to him sexually, she feels horrible about it right after. Will she be able to take control of the situation and kick him to the curb for good?

Erica just landed a prestigious new promotion at the Pentagon. Although she does not know how her name came up for the position, she is a little wary of why she was chosen for the job. She also wonders what exactly her new position requires her to do. It seems like her new boss is more interested in her personal life than anything else. The question is why?

Back On Top by Angela Winters was a drama filled story of friendship and lies. A story of three women who are driven to be successful in their careers no matter what. The constant name dropping of famous designer labels did get a bit annoying. There was no suspense to the "big secret" within the story. Some parts of the story were also a little repetitive. All in all, Back On Top was just an okay read.

I really liked the idea of this story being about smart DC sistas. The writer definitely keeps you interested. Sherise was one very sharp, career ambitious character, she had a friend Erica who was a very good hard worker, and the other friend Billie who was a lawyer was just a big ol wimp which didn't work for me at all. I absolutely hated her character and her storyline. I really liked Sherise, Jonah and her drama the most. The author seemed to have a thorough knowledge on most things, but there were some things that should have been fact checked. For example, Universal Studios is in Hollywood, not San Diego, or that an AA is higher than a AAA when it is not.
*Spoiler* For some reason I imagined Jonah as a black man even though in the beginning he is described as a white man, maybe it was his mannerisms that changed my view of him. But I was really disappointed in the ending. It was very abrupt, and I thought it could have been wrapped up a whole lot better. They were "On Top" on their own terms but they weren't on top the way I thought the story was leading. They weren't the strong sistas they appeared to start out as.
