Very nice!,

This Swedish singer's "little girl" voice and phrasing reminded me of none other than Billie Holiday, perfectly blended with a trio of musicians I've not heard of before (Peter Nordahl, Ronnie Gardiner, Patrick Boman), but whose other work I will snap up immediately.

Fantastic. It's one of the few albums I've heard recently that immediately grabbed me. I was just walking through a store where they were playing it and it evoked such a mood I had to ask about it. This is something I very rarely ever do because most music you hear in stores is just background noise, but this was different. It's so sad and fun that I never get tired of hearing it. For some reason it seems to make a great "holiday" (ie. Xmas) CD, even though it has nothing to do with that. I really think you can't go wrong with this and I also recommend her other English-language CD, "When Did You Leave Heaven?". I hear the Swedish stuff is also good but I have not heard it.

Lisa's singing style changed dramatically for her jazz albums compared to her solo Swedish albums, and I loved every second of it. Her expressiveness is moving, and her ability to convey mood and emotion had me spell-bound. Truely an angel in disguise. . .. The arrangements by the Peter Nordahl Trio are delightful, and there's some very innovative piano work to entertain inbetween Lisa's lovely vocals. Thank god I discovered her at a listening station in Towers. I would hate to think I could've missed out on such an incredible talent!

You will fall in love with a Swedish girl...,

Lisa Ekdahl isn't quite Lisa Ekdahl without singing in Swedish, but this is just as superb just in a little different way. The jazz band Peter Nordahl Trio makes incredibly smooth music. I was a bit sceptic about them backing the fragile voice of Lisa, but only until I heard it. It really works great! Being Swedish, Lisa has a little of that extremely sexy Swedish accent. If you buy this CD, I guarantee you'll be lost in Lisa's girlish-but-great voice by the first "Now, baby, or never". This is a really great album and I recommend it to everybody despite the price. However, If you want the real Lisa Ekdahl experience, you should also buy one of her first three albums in Swedish. Even though you might not understand a word, Lisa's voice together with her own music is something best described as divine.

An Unearthed Jewel,

Lisa Ekdahl's fragile voice is the perfect foil for the cool jazz of the Peter Nordahl Trio. The simplicity of the music and song becomes more and more enchanting with each play. Her Scandanavian accent lends just enough uniqueness to these standards to keep them fresh and enjoyable.

Sensational, lush, and yet bare, proving less is truly more.,

This is the first album this year that has instantly blown me away. It features the classic sparse trio (piano, bass, and drums) and the thin-ish vocals of Lisa Ekdahl which were a common source of criticism about her previous album, When Did You Leave Heaven. Here her vocals remain thin but she's matured, the depth of her expression carries her through. Combined with the often eclectic variations of the Peter Nordahl Trio this album of mostly standards is familiar and suprising at the same time. A real listening treat.

Smooth Sound For Smooth People,

If you love the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holliday, then you'll love Lisa. Her sound is smoother than and ice-cold glass of lemonade on a hot Georgia summer day. After a long hard day at work or just for a short drive to the store, this cd is perfect to keep you calm and relaxed. It seems to have a 1940s nostalgic night club atmosphere. It's also perfect for background music for a dinner party. Well what are you waiting for? Go Buy It!!!!

I first heard Lisa Ekdahl singing when I was studying at the Universuty of Uppsala, in Sweden: enchanting! A voice that would resurrect any man from the grave, especially an italian. However, I must admit that I like her best when she plays and sings in Swedish her own songs. Kom tillbaka, Lisa! She is a great performer in English too, and the band is great, even though not very innovative. But if you feel like being lullabied by good old jazz classics, enjoy the atmosphere that only our sweet Lisa can create. You will scream kneeling on the floor: "Lisa, jeg vill gifta med deg. Strax!"

A singer with a babyish voice,
By A Customer
This review is from: Back to Earth (Audio CD)
Miss Ekdahl is outstanding in a number of ways. However, she has a voice that is more babyish than Blossom Dearie, April Barrows or Bernadette Peters. You may want to listen to one tune all the way through to be sure you don't find it irritating.
