From the Back Cover

Millions of Americans continue to idealize a farming or ranching lifestyle. A simple country life, roots, living off the land, and a sense of community. All values and ideas that to this day continue to be a part of the All-American Dream. Today, there are vast numbers of people in the United States that want to farm. And on top of that an even greater number that simply want to return to rural life.

The statistic and trends state the undeniable facts: 62% or 48 million Americans stated that their desire to move to the country is increasing, according to a recent Gallup Poll. There are 3 million new rural residents with the pace of rural growth accelerating. July of 1995, American Demographics reports that factors such as long-term economic changes favor rural areas, along with the belief by many Americans that small town life is better. All of the big cities, except New York City, are losing population, with 3/4 of all rural counties gaining. June of 1996 the USDA reported that employment in non-metro counties is growing faster than metro. In a recent Gallup Poll 22% of Americans said they desired to live on a farm.

More and more individuals are living 20 to 50 miles from where they are employed to enjoy more enriching lifestyles. Additionally the new home office trend of is encouraging even more families to seek small towns and rural locations. People want to live in small towns and rural communities. Most simply need to know there are opportunities. Although 62% of Americans desire to move to the country only 34% act on that dream, why do the other 28% remain?

Within the pages of this book you will find much of the information and knowledge required to make your thoughts of country life or perhaps deriving an income off the land seem like a realistic idea. It is intended to be a no frills reference book and decision guide. Covering economic and social considerations, facts, figures and examples related to rural employment opportunities, housing and starting an agricultural enterprise. Turning your ideas and dreams of country or farm living into a reality.

This review is from: Back To The Farm (Paperback)
This book is well written and very concise. It is the most complete book I have read on purchasing country property or rural real estate, finding a job or career in Rural America and starting and running an agricultural enterprise or farm.

This book has a lot of valuable information for the beginningfarmer, but don't let the price fool you! The type is *very* small, the graphics lousy and many of the pages are only photocopied (badly) and un-readable. I would recommend you think twice before sinking $ into this book...
