Biography

Lissie was born in Rock Island, Illinois, one of the Quad Cities on the banks of the Mississippi River. It’s the city that inspired Rock Island Line and that bore Bix Beiderbecke; it’s the stuff of spring floods and pick-up trucks and bona fide blue-collar country music. She’s a straight-talking Midwestern girl, all flaxen hair and big blue eyes, and this girl is smart and ... Read more in Amazon's Lissie Store

I just discovered Lissie's music the last week when I was flipping through the channels and saw her on Guitar Center Sessions. I'm now a huge fan. So refreshing to find an artist who lets the music speak for itself. Love this album. I haven't stopped listening to it for the last 3 days. There are so many good songs, I don't know that I could pick just one as a favorite, but right now I keep going back to Cold Fish, Further Away and Can't Take it Back. Awesome!

It always takes me a couple of listens to really get into a Lissie CD, so don't judge it on the first listen. By the third listen, my daughter and I were jamming to every song. Back to Forever really showcases Lissie as a wonderful songwriter and a unique singer. My whole family loves her and if you ever get a chance to see her in concert, you won't be disappointed.

I have to admit that while I remember that at the time I liked Lissie's debut album, I can't really remember any songs from it (went back and listened to it for this review). I don't think I'll have that problem with this album though. It's like Lissie took all the good from her debut, and spiked it with bolder instrumentation and even better crafted hooks. This album is right on trend with hints of 70s and 80s rock like Tom Petty or Aerosmith with a healthy channeling of Stevie Nicks, wrapped up in a bright upbeat pop/folk/rock package.

Lissie's not the most witty or poetic lyricist, but what she lacks in originality--she makes up for in earnestness and a willingness to just lay it all out there. The music on this album is bold and is much better vehicle for her emotions than her more muted and acoustic debut album. The drums and groove to "Shameless" manage to convey a sense of youthful rebellion which Lissie pairs with the admirable declaration that: "I don't want to be famous/If I got to be shameless." "Sleepwalking" is one of my favorites with a much more chill vibe and totally relaxed chorus that you will just want to sink into like a favorite recliner. "What It's Like" and "I Bet On You" are other standout tracks.

There's something maddeningly about this album though--which is that several of the best songs have bits and pieces that sounds incredibly familiar. It's not to the point where I could say "oh song x sounds exactly like song y from back in the day." And yet there are repeated isolated sounds that I just know I've heard before.

As with others previously, saw Lissie on Guitar Center Sessions. After hearing a song or two I felt compelled to buy Back to Forever which was my first CD in over 15 years. Since the 1970"s I have always been a Greatful Dead fan.. Came to like First Wave in the 90's, but nothing new since. THANK YOU LISSIE for bringing someone back to listening to and appreciating music again. Everyone should buy this CD. She is truly gifted and to put out an album like this so early in her career is phenomenal.

I am a senior, & grew up on REAL rock, & rarely deviated from that genre. Discovering Lissie on a TV music interview show, motivated me to buy a CD from a current talent, which I haven't done in a long time. Hopefully, this gives a perspective buyer a clear picture of how much this girl's musical talent affected me. EVERY song I love, and has definite female rocker tones & great lyrics. She makes your blood flow, raspy voice takes me kind of a little M. Etheridge/ Stevie Nicks. Musical tastes are very personal, & I rarely do a music review for that reason, but her voice, guitar playing, lyric talents make her definitely worthy of a listen/consideration to one's musical library.

i just got the Music TV Station Palladia free for 4 days, and I recorded 4 Later with Jools Holland shows, i watch all the episodes and found a few artists I liked and might have to look into more, but then she came.....Lissie sang the song Further Away (Romance Police)....,one word.....Stunning! just Stunning! I watched her sing that song 10 times, and I am buying this CD for 1 song, and I'm hoping there's more where that came from

I call this genre Girl and a Guitar. This album is so good it almost makes me cry. 8 of the songs are instantly singable. The music is awesome, the lyrics are phenomenal and relevant. This will enter my top five already and i got it a week ago. Cannot recommend it enough. Love, love, love it. A beautiful example of how great a Girl and a Guitar can be. Women rock and this Lissie album is a shining example of near perfection!

I'd never heard of Lissie until I recently heard "The Habit" on a BBC radio show. This is a very good album with strong tunes and great pop hooks. My favorites are "The Habit," "Further Away," "I Don't Wanna Go to Work," and "I Bet On You." I find her sound very similar to that of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Very happy I discovered this artist.
