Killer Death Metal!,

Excellent new album from the gods of death metal. Sounds alot like their old stuff, such as Into the Grave and Soulless. They haven't released any new material in the last few years, but this was definately worth the wait! Any true Death-Metal head will be begging for more!

Good way to get earliest Demos,

Although the production isn't exactly spectacular - for the diehard Grave fan, the 2nd bonus CD (obviously in the limited edition 2 CD set) has 3 of their very early Demos:SICK, DISGUST, ETERNAL (1988 - Demo) 01. INTO THE GRAVE 02. ANNIHILATED GODS 03. INFERNAL MASSACRE SEXUAL MUTILATION (1989 - Demo) 04. DEFORMED 05. REALITY OF LIFE 06. MORBID WAY TO DIE 07. SEXUAL MUTILATION ANATOMIA CORPORIS HUMANI (1989 - Demo) 08. EXTREMELY ROTTEN FLESH 09. BRUTALLY DECEASED 10. SEPTIC EXCREMENTS 11. REBORN MISCARRIAGE Jorgen Sandstrom - Vocals & Rhythm Guitar Ola Lindgren - Lead Guitar & Bass / Vocals on tracks 1/5/9 Jensa Paulsson - Drums / Vocals on track 2

Just kick-your-ass death metal man... nothing fancy. If you're looking for something that blends 5 different genres in 15-minute epics or anything of the like, you've come to the wrong place... you're better off sticking to Opeth and other such things. If you like any of the old school death metal or things off the Century Media label such as Into Eternity, Vital Remains, Dark Tranquility, Divine Empire... you should love this. Just heavy heavy music that you won't be able to stop banging your head to. Every riff will kick your ass harder and harder.

I went and saw Grave live with Immolation... amazing show. They played much off this new album, and it all blended perfectly with their old stuff. Old Grave fans WILL NOT be disappointed with this one... I wasn't. Buy it NOW. \m/

WOW! It's been 6 years since I last heard from Grave, whose Hating Life album ( to my ears) was a total dud. Who lit a fire under these Swedes? Back from the Grave is one crushing album...sounds comparable to Obituary's farewell opus. Pounding drums, lurching down-tuned guitars, and sewage vocals. It's good to hear old school death metal that just beats you to the floor..Good Stuff....old fans WILL NOT be disappointed..think Soulless era!!!!

I was originaly disappointed when I listened to "Back from the Grave" since I was expecting the heaviness and speed of their first two albums. This album is Grave's slowest and is also marred by a thin sounding production which can be alleviated somewhat by increasing the bass response on your stystem. Despite this albums' weaknesses I've become quite fond of it over time. For a slow album it's good. There's a well done chugging rhythm in each song and Ola Lindgren's songwriting is very good. Also, Lindgren's vocals are superior: medium deep, very throaty, understandable, and without sounding like a hearing impaired overweight wrestler. When the lyrics are " Born a saint died in sin so the holy one won't let us in " that's what you hear from Lindgren, not borblu atha binbla boly thin inblfu. Lindgrens' ability to articulate well doing Death Metal vocals makes his music more effective for me. On to the demos. The first and third demos, Sick Disgust Eternal and anatomia Corporus Humani have a very thin tinny sound. You'll need maximum bass response to enjoy these. Three of the songs haven't been re-recorded -yet, so this is the only source for them. The second demo, Sexual Mutilation, was recorded at a different studio and has a mega heavy sound. I lower my bass to the minimum when I listen to this and it still sounds a little muddy, but damm good; In fact "back from the Grave" would sound better to me if it was as heavy as this. Two of the songs on this demo aren't available elsewhere. The song Sexual Mutilation is superb and one of my favorites from Grave. I hope they re-record this song for a future album.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the track Below. How sick is the solo on there? SICK! I would by it again just for that one track and every time I listen to it in the gym or in one of my vehicles it makes want to find a small child to punch in the face! Sure that's pretty messed up but that's how much the song destroys lives.

This 2 CD release had potential, but the album goes no where. Grave have not released a good CD since Soulless, and I find that album a little too tame for what Grave once was. The only good part about this release, is the 2nd bonus disc containing their early Demos. Put simply, the demo disc is the only reason to buy this release.Grave's new album As Rapture Comes will be out later this year (2006). From what Ive heard of the album (which is the entire album), its not anything to rave about either. REVISION: I must admit that while Grave's recent studio works are not my taste, their live shows are damn good. Support death metal.

Get me a pillow,
This review is from: Back From the Grave (Audio CD)
This CD is straightforward bore-core. I was so bored while listening to this CD the first time that I just had to change the CD, and pop in some Desultory (...). Old school metal is the best, but Grave's style is definately... horrible. I don't know why the hell I even bought this CD, and by the way, has anybody but me noticed that this CD lacks bass? It sounds as if the bass player's track just got left behind and out of this recording in general... not a sign of a good CD.I'm a huge fan of swedish metal, but these guys just plain old suck. I have to tell you, the bonus CD that came with this worthless piece of plastic was better than the CD I bought. It has way much more music on it, it's raw, and it's actually creative. I strongly suggest that you don't buy this CD. But if you can, try to just find the bonus CD somewhere (off a friend, ebay, anywhere) and listen to that instead. It's far better than the other one... |
