Although Carli and Xavier have been divorced for five years, sparks fly again when they are trapped in an elevator. little did they know that they managed to accomplish what they didn't manage to do during their marriage - create a new life.

This is a novel twist to the usual tale of one-night pregnancy tales. Depth and emotional complexity is thrown into the tale by the presence of an existing relationship between the couple as ex-spouses. I was drawn into the story by curiousity as to how the story would pan out, as the couple, having been married before, are reluctant to re-marry just for the sake of the child. I suppose this story is rather realistic, with the ex-husband having other relationships after the couple divorces, which is rather off putting. why is it always the guy who manages to get into subsequent relationships after divorce/break up while the heroine remains chaste and waiting for someone to come along? And often, she would be in a worse economic position than before?

Anyway, all in all, a not bad read, but it's not one of those stories that you would re-read and re-read again once your curiousity is satisfied as to finding out how the story ends. If this is the first time you're reading this author, you may wish to try her other books (some of which are quite excellent, e.g. One Last Night (Harlequin Presents)).

Where to even begin.

I'll begin with the fact that I like Melanie Milburne. So many Harlequin authors repeat their plots and circumstances ad nauseum, and for the few books of Ms Milburne's I've read, she doesn't seem to suffer from OutOfIdeas-itis.

But I would be hard pressed to recommend this book to anyone. I don't think I went any 10 pages in this book without their being an altercation. I mean it. It was non-stop bickering. They bickered before they had sex and after. They bickered before she fainted, they argued after she woke up in the hospital. For 160 pages my only thought was these people should never be together.

My pet peeve about these Harlequin books is that they have a tendency for the men to deny their feelings for the entirety of the book and then bam, they suddenly admit they were in love with the heroine all along. This was no exception. We learn the situation with these two, learn that given the heroine's past, she was bound to sabotage any serious relationship she had, and that went for this one. She keeps part of herself hidden, never wanting to get too close, because in the back of her mind, the people she loves always leaves her. The discovery of that was painful and well-written. And of course the hero in the book didn't help matters by keeping himself emotionally unavailable to her because in his mind he was no longer in love with her. Then BAM. Towards the end of the book he realizes he'd never stopped loving her.

Quite frankly, I don't know how they even realize they love each other when they argued so much. But oh well. The end was sweet, so I give it 2 stars for that.

I have been known to complain a lot about these books not being believable, and they always say be careful what you wish for. Like any divorced couple, all that fighting was very believable. A little too believable and realistic. As it turns out, I do need a bit of unbelievable romance to find these books enjoyable. Who knew?

Both are stuck in an elevator which becomes big news cause they have been divorced for over 5 years. Now a little over 4 months later she is back and pregnant. Xavier must decide if he wants his ex wife back or not. Carli is devestated cause she still loves him. But is it enough? Another book by Melanie Milburne that I have read and will reread again.
