Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

While other trends fall by the way, corporate rock lives on the ropes, an assessment that should hardly cause Seven and the Sun any sleepless nights; just ask Foreigner. The New Jersey trio's debut boasts that "every song counts." Judging from Neal Avron's slick, über-hip production, some nigh-perfect hooks, and vocalist Seven's overwrought, Marc Anthony-meets-Bono-at-the-Eurovision-Song-Finals vocal sense, that sounds like a promise that may turn out to be both figurative and literal. Indeed, the band's initial single, the maddeningly catchy "Walk with Me," debuted not on MTV, but on the NBC daytime soap opera Passions. Their music may be the pop equivalent of KFC, but these lads do marketing right. Most of the songs bristle with so much working-class romance and blue-collar hope that they just might make Springsteen and Mellencamp blush if they weren't delivered with such zealous, irony-free urgency. "Jump (The Velvet Rope)" even assures listeners that guys with multinational label deals are dreamers just like them--even when it's you who's stuck on the wrong side of that velvet rope. All the elements are here to beat Train and Creed to the top of the CHR heap. --Jerry McCulley

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, August 14, 2004
This review is from: Back to the Innocence (Audio CD)
Well, first of all, I am a critic. I am very harsh when it comes to judging and evaluating anything, so my 5 stars came to me as a shock as well. Listen, I first heard this group on Passions (daytime soap opera) and did not know who they were, like most people. After that, it was a match made in heaven. Seven and the Sun are great musicians and a superb band. Even better, this CD is unbelievable. You can't go wrong when listening to a song on this CD; they are all superb. I will tell you immediately that my favorite song of this amazing CD is "I Pray". Why you ask? It has everything : great vocals, superb corrals, perfect chorus, pin point music which combined with the rhythm of the lead vocalist's great voice is unmatched in any song I have ever heard to this date. My favorite song until now has been "Wherever you Will Go" by The Calling because of that same criteria, but "I Pray" outmatched the rhythm and the musicof that song and then some. It has become my favorite song of all time,I kid you not, and I have heard a lot of them. It is haunting and gives you the chills by the mesmerising combination of the vocals and the music, and becomes in my mind one of the best romance songs of all time. Simply Unbelievable. And that's not all folks. The other songs simply continue the trend of great writing and producing on this CD; some other notables: Jump, Walk with me, Back to the Innocence are all great songs and are more up-tempo than the slow, and remarkable "I Pray". Another very good song is Black and Blue. All in all, this is what you want when you go out and buy a CD, great songs that you will be playing over and over, and maybe never forget. I have bought, as surely as most of you have, some CD's for a couple of songs that seemed good. With Back to the Innocence by The Seven and The Sun, you get quality and best of all value, REPLAY VALUE for all of the 11 tracks.
