Originally a deep house DJ, Freeland became known for seamlessly blending hip-hop and electro into his sets. He pioneered "nu-school breaks" - breakbeats with an eclectic range of influences including techno, drum 'n' bass and world music. Adams first compilation was Coastal Breaks series and the hit track "Hip Hop Phenomenon" quickly gaining him the reputation as a rising star. His remixing credits include The Orb, Headrillaz, Orbital, Deejay Punk Roc, and Dylan Rhymes.
Adam has discarded the rulebook for the Back to Mine Series and pushed the boundaries even further. Adam starts the mix off like no other before with some super charged rock from the likes of Trail Of The Dead, then he drops such dope fuelled acoustic delights as Elliot Smith, The Beta Band and PJ Harvey. This is a mix that truly captures the ethos of Back to Mine but in turn opens the series up to yet another new breed of listeners. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

as has been previously stated, this album is nothing like tektonics, coastal breaks, breaks it, or even his essential mix. however; if you're a fan of good music in general, you should definitely take a second look. the other negative reviews, which reference some of his early albums, obviously aren't familiar with the back to mine series. that being said, if you're looking for a breakbeat record, this isn't it. if what you're looking for is a good cd, and dumbfoundingly inovative mixing... pick this up.

a huge fan here of the back to mine series since the day nick warren put out his version. i can say that it, the series, has travelled a varied path to freeland's release. a time when electronica has started a retreat back to the faithful, freeland provides a wonderful bridge connecting old school ambiance, fronted by a who's who of the resurgence of rock.
nicely done, as said, a pleasant surprise - one that won't find itself in the recycle bin anytime soon...

The point of the 'Back to Mine' series is to showcase what is musically significant (of which they can get the rights to use, anyway) to each volume's featured compiler, who in this case is Freeland. If you are a proper 'breaks' fan, and only a breaks fan, this record is not for you. However, if you've been following Adam Freeland's live DJ sets and his latest, more politically motivated output, you'll probably dig this record. The only drawback is that the classic tracks like Funkadelic, are outnumbered by the recent cuts from acts like TV on the Radio. I wish Freeland had dug a little deeper in his crates and pulled out a Rage Against the Machine record or the like.
