5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of the best mixes in the Back to Mine series
I love chill out music. I also am a fan of Nick Warren's work with Way Out West. Maybe casual fan is more like it since I wasn't completely wild over "Intensify". The last Back to Mine compilation that I bought (Orbital) didn't exactly set my ears on fire. 3.0 out of 5 stars Ecletic set with hits and clunkers
"Back to Mine," essentially meaning back to my place to chill out, and a new series from superstar DJ's who want to help you mellow. Nick Warren, banging trance maestro, got the call and from the looks of it prefers to leave the electronic environment in the club.

Moody, ominous- almost disturbing- the sinewy synths of the stellar "Warmth Reheated"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of the best mixes in the Back to Mine series, December 21, 2002

I love chill out music. I also am a fan of Nick Warren's work with Way Out West. Maybe casual fan is more like it since I wasn't completely wild over "Intensify". The last Back to Mine compilation that I bought (Orbital) didn't exactly set my ears on fire. When I saw the track list for Nick Warren's contribution to the Back to Mine series, I knew immediately that I wanted to get the cd. Thankfully I was able to find this particular copy of Back to Mine in the used cd bins at my favorite record store. After listening to the album, I have to go on record and say that the Nick Warren disc in the Back to Mine series is by far the best I have heard so far. The only other mix cd I liked in the series was the Faithless cd. This cd contains some of the most beautiful music that I have ever heard, and ironically enough some of it comes off Italian porn soundtracks which I find interesting enough. The only two songs that I am familiar with is Moby's Go and Craig Armstrong's "This Love" (featuring Elizabeth Fraser). Nick chose really excellent tracks to fit the mood of the Back to Mine series. My problem with the Orbital cd was that they threw together Jethro Tull and PJ Harvey and tried to be different when in reality the cd sounded way too weird. The songs didn't flow together like the songs here on the Nick Warren disc. Nick's disc contained some groovy french disco, stunning ambient tunes, some mild breakbeat tracks, and the bizarre yet strangely beautiful songs from some Italian porn soundtracks. I definitely need to check out other Back to Mine cds from Everything But the Girl, Talvin Singh, and Morcheeba. The Nick Warren disc was really made me a fan now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impossibly beautiful, April 7, 2000
This review is from: Back to Mine (Audio CD)
As the sleve notes say, probably the best way to enjoy this CD is to have a mad night out and then crawl back home and put this mix on.

Nick Warren, probably best know for his 'banging' excursions with trancers 'Way Out West' has produced a superb chill-out soundtrack. Kicking off with some 'laid-back' house the mix slowly winds down through some downbeat tracks before curling up with two fatastic cuts - Coldcut's 'Autumn Leaves' and Jam & Spoon's remix of Moby's 'Go'. If you're not moved in any way by those tracks then hit 'eject' right then. The rest of the mix doesn't drop the quality or a beat once, continuing towards a dreamy conclusion.

Don't expect Nick Warren to move your ass with this one, instead he massages your ears and moves your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars sweet sweet goodness, October 12, 2002

nick warren is the "true" originator of the back to mine series. as the liner notes story goes, nick used to send chill out tapes kind of as a hobby. they were so amazing that some very nice people decided to try and make a series out of stuff like it.

but you want to know why no other back to mine will sound anything like this? because this album is so insanely awesome that they knew it had to stand alone and apart.

this album is a collection of some of the most beautiful music i have ever heard. i'm actually on here because i lost my original copy and have finally given up trying to find it, so i'm on going to buy it again.

i easily give this album 5 stars, but in a world where each star equals 100. buy it and drive home with it playing and the sun rising after boogieing all night.

got this in heathrow. if you are looking for Warren's typical hard trance mix, DON'T look here. However, for those who enjoy an ambient or dub sound, you will be delighted. it's perfect come down music with Massive Attack, Moby, Skanna, and Craig Armstrong among others. And, of course, Nick's slick mixing ties it together perfectly. highly unique and refreshing sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Mix!, January 3, 2002

My dad played this in the car one day and I've gone on to "borrow" all 6 of the albums in teh Back To Mine series...for those of you that don't know, "Back To Mine" is a set of 6 (so far) CD's in which semi-famous DJ's mix together their personal choices of ecletic mood music. Nick Warrens is for SURE my fave, since it just chills you out completely. "This Love" is for sure the best song, but all of them have a different aspect which draws you in. I can see "This Love" being a tv theme or something. Warren himselfe is quite different then the music hes chosen but the cd is masterful. I'd also reccommend "Everything But The Girl" and the "Faithless" cds in the Back To Mine series...this one for sure though

"Back to Mine," essentially meaning back to my place to chill out, and a new series from superstar DJ's who want to help you mellow. Nick Warren, banging trance maestro, got the call and from the looks of it prefers to leave the electronic environment in the club.

Moody, ominous- almost disturbing- the sinewy synths of the stellar "Warmth Reheated" by Sequential and the piano/almost drum and bass of "This Way" draw you in, warming you up for the trip hop ballad "This Love," wistful singing courtesy of Elizabeth Frazier (from Massive Attack's "Teardrop.")

Just as the music envelops you, though, two high profile hits jar the mix: Coldcut's disjointed "Autumn Leaves" (an acquired taste, apparently) and the slurred, off-tone squelches of Moby's "Go," remixed by Jam & Spoon.

Redemption comes with a series of simple laid-back guitar tunes (did I just praise a guitar?) like the beautiful "Past" by Sub Sub and the sunset dreams of "La Chatte Rouge." Glide, who is Echo & the Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant, closes with his second inclusion, the trippy "Space Van."

Warren's sets have shown him to be an eclectic bloke, and his chill out mix is no exception. Not the smoothest ride out there, but still better than a majority of the downtempo wave hitting our shores. 3.5 starts

this is the orginal and best 'back to mine albums' I am fortunate to listen to a lot of music, and this album really is exqusite, the tracks work so well on their own, but as a whole it really doesn't get any better. My personal favourate on the album is this love by craig armstrong, arrrh! that's good! so to any one reading this, buy buy buy. you will not regret.

from song one this album really fills the role of a chill out album. the tracks are gentle and beautiful, something not always associated with this genre. Craig Armstrongs "This Love" flows fluidly into Coldcut's "Autumn Leaves", both tracks eclipsing the beauty of the female vocal. Just too great to give up. hackneyed and jaded, this album won't get. Nick Warren has always and continues to push boundaries aside in his respective music field. A+.

Surprised to (finally) have found a chill-out cd from the likes of Nick Warren. Nick Warren typically delivers the goods in the manner of absolutely amazing trance, as is evident if you take even a passing glance at any of his GU releases (particularly "Amsterdam" and "Live in Prague"). But, like everyone else, even NW needs his down-time. Enter, this release.

If you're already familiar with the Back to Mine series, you know what to expect. This is laid-back, chilled-out, sitting in your favorite chair, laying on your favorite couch, lying in your favorite bed (with your favorite person, of course), and even sitting poolside, beachside, or window-side as it rains. Smoothed out vibes, slightly trippy beats, delicious altogether.

Very worth having and very worth the import price (if you order it off here).

Also check out Groove Armada's effort in this series, as well as that of Faithless. Both of those are extremely good.
