Given my usual diet of rock and heavy metal records, one may question why I'd be interested or even poke my head into the Big Beat/Breakbeat quadrant of music. Well, to be honest, it really wasn't a choice per say, but rather a chance encounter that introduced me to Cirrus' music.

Suppose the Beastie Boys went into the studio with the Crystal Method to record a full length album. Thats pretty close to what this CD sounds like. Tracks like "Back on a Mission" and "Abba Zabba" definately lay down funky rhymes with a great beat. But more suprising is how Cirrus reverses the playful funkyness to more emotional electronic-subspace melodies with tracks like "The Answer" and "Soul Blast." In general a very good album whose tracks are instantly appealing and catch immediately with a few deeper tunes to add more than playfulness. I highly recommend it to dance/hip-hop/electronic fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cirrus is great dance music!, January 30, 1999

Cirrus has created a very grovin' album that will get anyone on the dance floor! The hit "Back on a mission" (first heard on the mortal kombat 2 soundtrack) has a killer house style, where as "The answer" holds more of a Crystal Method sound to it. All in all, this is a great CD. If you like Crystal Method, Lunatic Calm, or Chemical Bro's pick this one up.

This cd is full of high energy, crankin' techno. Everyone I know who has listened to any one of these tracks wants to immediatly go out and buy it. Times running out is one of the best high energy techno songs I've ever heard. If you get the chance, see these guys live, you won't regret it.

Bottom line is you wont regret buying this cd, ever. Escpecially when you are about 10 minutes into the last tune and Cirrus whips out their banjo.

This CD is not a must-have, but it's worth a few bucks. Cirrus has better stuff. If you get a chance to pick it up on the cheap, go ahead.

Given my usual diet of rock and heavy metal records, one may question why I'd be interested or even poke my head into the Big Beat/Breakbeat quadrant of music. Well, to be honest, it really wasn't a choice per say, but rather a chance encounter that introduced me to Cirrus' music.

So, how would someone not interested in the genre be exposed to it? Licensed music, or more specifically licensed music within a video game. Some may remember the popularity of the Twisted Metal games during the early years of the original PlayStation. The first two games used original music but this changed when Sony switched development teams (to the distain of many) for the third and fourth games. These games contained music from several heavy metal outfits, most notably White Zombie/Rob Zombie. So where does Cirrus come into play? The tenth track on this album - "Times Running Out" - plays in the second stage (Neon City) of Twisted Metal 4.

While I don't dabble in video games as much as I use to despite the fact it's still a large part of my identity, why would anyone be so concerned about a piece of music used in a twelve year old video game? I've always enjoyed video game music and how it coincides with the action on the screen. This usually doesn't apply when a game opts for licensed music, but the Twisted Metal sequels found a nice balance with this and the tracks selected really helped enhance the wreck loose automobile combat. "Times Running Out" really nails this feeling in the dark cityscape it plays in, but what about the rest of the album? What does it offer?

Like a little devil wringing his hands with evil grin, the rest of the album has little to do with this track. I was hoping to hear some similar pieces or pieces that contained the same architecture and sound but no. "Times Running Out" is a true anomaly and definitely feels tacked on to the end of the album. I can't say the rest of the album is bad, but it is certainly isn't what I'm looking for. It's a mystery as to why this song feels so full, almost as if a full band was behind it and the rest are more reminiscent of what would expect from a trace/techno duo. The biggest disappointment has to be the fact there are no lyrics in the booklet; I was dying to find out what they were singing about only to find out I will never know.

If anything, Back on a Mission is a reminder that disappointment is an essential part of discovery and that misleading anomalies exist in the world of music as well. That said I've no problem taking that one moment of magic and adding to the vast well of music I keep on hand and leaving the rest to its own devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps You Movin', December 8, 2004

Seriously! Cirrus is on a mission to make you dance all night, or at least tap your toes. I was given the CD as a gift by my Aunt who is a publisher for Moonshine records and I never heard of them before. Driving around, I popped the CD in the car stereo. Instantly I was blown away, and even with a pretty decent system I only wanted it to go louder (and drive faster for that matter). They obviously have skills and it shows on every track. ABBA Zabba is one of my faves. True talent and energy combine for an "OFF THE HOOK" set of tracks that will make you want to hear more, and more, and more...

i am a techno fan and i must saythat this is one of the best albums ive ever heard. With their matrix-style of urban beats and fast - paced lyrics. Beating the crystal method out of the top spot, this wonderful mix of techno and rap/hip hop makes this a must have for anyone who likes a great beat.

Techno junk food with some Rap/R+B influences. Amazing how a 5 minute song can seem like 8 minutes, when the majority is ust the same, repetitive hip-hop rhythm scheme.
