TREND SETTERS....AND NO ONE EVEN KNOW'S IT!!!!,
By
This review is from: Back to Mystery City (Audio CD)
Where to begin, bowie?,gabriel?,. Cause let's get real...that's when it started!
We could go on all day! For you younger Cat's i'm talking about what vH1 calls glam! Education time!!! There was never anything called "Hair Metal" or "GLAM METAL"...or a "Mullet". These terms did not exist until Vh1 needed a name!!They used to call it glitter rock! in the 70's...Bowie, sweet, slade,kiss,queen,t-rex, mott the hoople, new york dolls and yes... even twisted sister!!! I'll try to summ it up quick, the whole glam thing that happend in the 80's was influenced by most of the bands mentioned,{the shock rockers as we'll...alice cooper and so on...)But nobody seems to remember that HANOI ROCKS came along in the late 70's and inspired the likes of MOTLEY CRUE, GUNS AND ROSES, getting the picture??? And then came the others...Poison,Faster pussycat, L.A. Gunns,Jetboy,. Google pictures of Hanoi,,.. then google pictures of the 80's bands mentioned,..You'll see what i mean..As for the sound?, ....glam is simple..it's power pop, hard rock, punk, and all attitude!!!Once you have that?? the look just falls into place!! The first time i saw guns n roses it was 1987 ...i had loud music in my house...the t.v. was on mtv, but the volume was off!!! The welcome to the jungle video was on... i looked at the t.v. and said to myself...cool ...hanoi rocks got back together!!! at the end in the lower corner of the t.v. it said guns and roses...????who are they?? i thought. Enough Said? Even axl admits "if hanoi rocks would have stayed together, there would have been no motley crue or guns n roses" Google that quote along with axl and you'll find it for yourself.!! Moral of this story? If you think u like 80's glam, you BETTER buy some Hanoi Rocks!!!!

GUNS N WHO?,

ah, Hanoi Rocks... a classic band who will probably never get the credit they deserve. these guys were around before all the Sunset Strip glam bands and got only a fraction of the attention. this album is a classic from them with one great song after another. i wont even bother highlighting any because not one is a dud! the only problem i have with this cd is that the production could've used a bit more punch to it, but that aside, the songwriting is top notch rocknroll and this is a top notch album! highly recommended!

Spectacular,

A mixture of blues, punk, and old school rock n roll come together in this great album. Songs that stand out are the classics: malibu beach nightmare, mental beat, tooting bec wreck, and until i get you. Altough every song is catchy, upbeat and memorable just like all of Hanoi Rock's music. In my opinion, this band is highly underrated and to the major population, unknown. It's suprising that bands like the New York Dolls and Guns N Roses are more recognized even though Hanoi Rocks is far superior to both. Don't let this album pass you by.

Simply one of the best rock'n'roll album ever. (OOps, maybe it's too much). I loved these songs when I was 17. Those punks had a strong-nervous sound. Andy McCoy is simply a stage-animal. Surf on the "Malibu beach Nightmare", shake with "Mental beat", cry on "Sailing down the tears". If you like rock'n'roll music with that particular early 80s taste, this is the album for ya.

Much Better Production,

More dynamic, better structured, better produced, better everything...well, except for the masterpiece that followed, which was Two Steps. Mott The Hoople (kinda) produced this. I love Tooting Bec Wreck on this...and why they don't do this song is beyong me, well Michael did in Demolition 23. Flawless really.

I HAVE LOVED HANOI ROCKS FOR 20 YEARS. THIS IS ONE OF THEIR BEST ALBUMS. MIKE MONROE HAS THE VOICE OF A GOD, AND ANDY IS A GENIUS. THE ONLY ALBUM THAT EXCEEDS THIS ONE IS:SELF DESTRUCTION BLUES!!!!

The only hair band worth listening to,

There was a period comprising a big chunk of the 80's during which you had to have a perm and pout to be in a popular rock band, and almost all of those bands were the worst kind of junk - Ratt, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Poison, Guns N Roses. Los Angeles and Hollywood spewed them out by the dozen. Kind of funny to look back on.But then there's Hanoi Rocks amidst all of that. A hairdo band from Finland! What's up with that? The reality is that they were a huge influence on many of those LA bands, but they couldn't have been more different in their own influences, attitude, and talent. Hanoi Rocks sprang from the same vein that gave us The Stooges, The New York Dolls, and much of the early glam, but they came along about ten years too late. LA knew exactly what to do with their look, but never could quite make out their sound which is essentially bouncy, fun, intelligent, noisy power pop. Back To Mystery City is definitely one of the better albums, but I think Self-Destruction Blues and Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks are better. Those seem to be out of print. Avoid Two Steps from the Move. That was an ill fated attempt to fit into the current American hard rock mold.

One of my favorite CD's of everything I own. I really think this is the best that Hanoi Rocks put out, and I wish they were still around in LA or somewhere.
