Book Description

March 30, 2007
In our quick-fix society, we often search for easy medical fixes. We make a diagnosis, put it in a box, and provide a medication, manipulation or surgical intervention to treat the diagnosis. Sixty million Americans who suffer with chronic pain tell us that this approach does not work.

Back pain is a major manifestation of chronic suffering, and effective treatment is based on understanding both the body and the mind. The science of medicine explores the mind-body interface. The art of medicine transforms this exploration into practical solutions.

Back Pain Understood provides an easy-to-follow format that provides practical solutions for the healthcare practitioner and patient.

Explore for yourself what Back Pain Understood can offer you:

* An understanding of the mind-body connection

Editorial Reviews

Review

For more than 30 years I have explored the mysterious world of mind-body. What Dr. Hainline has done with this book is brilliant. It represents an extraordinary contribution to the often misrepresented and misunderstood world of mind-body interactions. What I love about Brian's book is its eloquent simplicity and remarkable clarity of thought combined with unfailing scientific fervor. This is a must read. --Jim Loehr, Ed.D. Co-Author The power of full Engagement

Charles Barkley once told me;There are two types of people in this world-folks whose backs don't hurt and folks whose backs do. This book takes a remarkable loos at the second category:the causes, consequences and cures for back pain. It is presented in such an accesible way that anyone can understand and appreciate the knowledge, wisdown and possibilities within these pages. What's most fascinanting to me is Brian's exploration of the power of emotions in the mind-body connection-that whether you are listening or not, your body is always trying to tell you sometthing. --Mary Castillo, Former Tennis Professional, Sportscaster

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Well-written. Informative., May 16, 2007
This review is from: Back Pain Understood: A Cutting-edge Approach to Healing Your Back (Paperback)
This book is a great resource not only for patients, but also for physicians and clinicians who need to better understand the complexities of back pain. The illustrations are outstanding, and the discussions about anatomy, the meaning of pain, treatment approaches and the different back syndromes are interesting, informative and easy to follow. Dr. Hainline's insight into the mind-body is eye opening, and the many patient case reports remind us of how difficult and gratifying it can be to take a journey through pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Resource for Patients and Doctors, May 23, 2007
This review is from: Back Pain Understood: A Cutting-edge Approach to Healing Your Back (Paperback)
Extremely well-written, informative and thoughtful approach to a common problem. Dr Hainline's extensive experience in caring for individuals with back pain shines through in this very approachable review. The figures are outstanding and the common sense approach to many problems makes this the best overall guidebook for patients to better understand why they have pain and how to get better. In addition to many of the standard ("white bread") books that summarize the diagnosis and treatment of different back pain syndromes, this book offers truly new insights that can really help people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a book that actually helps the reader, June 14, 2007

This review is from: Back Pain Understood: A Cutting-edge Approach to Healing Your Back (Paperback)
Dr. Hainline's book is a gift to anyone who suffers from pain, actually any type of pain. The connections that he makes between our minds and bodies reveal how we can help ourselves heal. He shows how the patient is an active partitipant in their own recovery. I felt, while reading, he wrote this book to me personally. I still continue to pick up the book to refresh myself on how I can continue to help myself. Thank you, Dr. Hainline, for a wonderful book.
