It's Awesome!,
By Heather L Hoffman (Lompoc, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back to Protein: The Low Carb/No Carb Meat Cookbook (Hardcover)
I started the Atkins diet about a month ago and lost over 22 pounds since. And this book helped me do it! There are so many recipes for beef, chicken and pork, I've used the book now for 3 weeks and haven't repeated a recipe (if I did, I wanted too!) and I haven't been disappointed. The book clearly states the guidlines for the carb count, and very few are over 10 grams per serving, so this book is a MUST for the Induction Dieters! I've enjoyed things like chicken in a white wine-cream sauce with mushrooms; a ham steak with a cream-mustard sauce; and chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese covered with mozarella. My husband and I keep asking each other, "Are we really dieting! " This book is a must have for the low-carb dieter, and I assure you, you won't get bored! As my nine-year-old step daughter says -- "It's the BOMB!"

Great New Cookbook for Atkins Dieters,
By Charles W Letzgus Jr (Riverside, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back to Protein: The Low Carb/No Carb Meat Cookbook (Hardcover)
The reason the Atkins Diet has worked for me is that I love meat. So I was very pleased to find "Back to Protein," with a new assortment of recipes for main-course meats. (The reviewer who wanted more egg recipes in the book should have read the title before buying: it's "The Low Carb/No Carb Meat Cookbook.")Lots of recipes for beef, pork, and poultry, and even recipes for less popular meats like lamb and game, plus some seafood recipes as well. The only gripe I have is that the recipes do not include actual carb counts, only a classification of low, very low, trace or no carbohydrates. Those who have to be extremely precise in their carb-counting will need to figure out actual counts on their own. Other than that, the book is tremendous, as variety is something we all seek in our low-carb way of eating.

Simple and Tasty,
By Stacey L. Bennett (Locust Grove, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Back to Protein: The Low Carb/No Carb Meat Cookbook (Hardcover)
I have been put on a low-carb diet by my gynecologist because I am insulin resistant and have reactive hypoglycemia. I have purchased several cookbooks (including Atkins) and have found the dishes to be too "fancy" for my family's tastes (especially my 9-year-old stepdaughter). BACK TO PROTEIN provides quick, easy and TASTY recipes which the whole family can enjoy. I appreciate the short ingredient lists and the fact that the ingredients can be easily found in my local grocery store. We especially enjoy the ground beef and chicken recipes (mock pizzas and mock lasagna are terrific!) I also love the crock pot recipes for easy end-of-the-day meals!!I can't wait until Mrs. Doyen writes another cookbook. I'd love to have some more crock pot recipes for chicken and roast beef! Thank you for a terrific cookbook which has made it much easier to follow a low-carb diet. I feel great and it is so easy to stick with my diet when given such a wide variety of meal choices.
