5.0 out of 5 stars Tired of no talent boy bands? Come BACK TO REALITY!, January 29, 2001
Slaughter is on the lines of a heavy metal/hard rock band that really can be classified as either. But no matter what you classify them as, you must put them under the "talented musicians" category. They are truly a band that has it all. A great guitarist, bass player, drummer, and a lead singer with a powerful and distinct voice. This is an EXCELLENT CD and is well worth any true fan's collection. The song Dangerous is one that I personally have taken under my wing and have made it a song that I listen to quite frequently. This CD truly is excellent and if you are tired of listening to little boys sing love songs they didn't write and dance around the stage instead of playing instruments, come back to reality and listen to one of the best bands int he world. Slaughter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slaughter gets down and dirty!, January 19, 2001
Slaughter's third album in three years "Back to Reality" features their strongest group of songs since 1995's excellent "Fear No Evil." This is the first cd with new guitarist Jeff Blando who replaces the late Tim Kelly, who passed away in early 1998 in a car accident. Jeff, while not as melodic as Tim, shreds on this cd. `Killing Time' is by far the heaviest song Slaughter ever did and is a must-listen not only for Slaughter fans but critics who have lambasted the four for being just another hairspray band. `All fired up' and `Take me away' are classic Slaughter minus some of the studio polish present in some of the bands previous efforts while `Dangerous' makes one think of AC/DC. The first single off "Back to reality" `Trailer Park Boogie' features the distinct vocals by Mark Slaughter and really showcases Jeff's sleazy, raw guitar sound. "Love is forever' is the first of three ballads from the cd and is reminiscent of the band's hit from the early 90's `Fly to the angels.' This is followed up by `Bad Groove' a song that sounds like it came off Slaughter's 1997 cd, "Revolution," a disc while still rock, sounded more like Enuff Z'Nuff than Slaughter. The second ballad `On my own' is a slightly generic "I want you back" song one might send out to an ex. As is commonplace on Slaughter studio albums, "Back to Reality" features a brief instrumental and this one segues into the song `Heading for a dream' which starts out very slow then goes full tilt near the end, the song is an underrated gem and has been compared to Zeppelin in some circles. The last full-length song and best of the three ballads is `Nothing left to lose' which has a great chorus and is one of the best on the disc. Like with the band's debut "Stick it to ya," this cd closes out with a hidden track of the band fooling around in the studio, this cd's track `Shufflin' is the unofficial sequel to the track `Winging it' from that first cd. All in all, this is in the top three of the bands best albums, which is quite an achievement looking at the eight Slaughter has in their catalog. This is ideal for those who were either into Slaughter or don't mind rock that is good, clean fun even if it is slightly cliched. "Back to Reality" is unashamed hair rock at it's finest and if released ten years ago, would have been huge.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST SLAUGHTER ALBUM YET! 2-7-2000, February 7, 2000
By E.R. GREY BULL (POPLAR, MONTANA USA) - See all my reviews
THIS ALBUM IS SO DIVERSE IN SLAUGHTERS MUSIC THAT IT'S A WONDER WHY THIS ROCK AND ROLL BAND IS NOT AS POPULAR AS SOME OTHER ROCK ACTS? THE HARD ROCK SIDE OF THE CD IS GREAT BUT THE SOFTER SIDE IS EVEN BETTER! CASE IN POINT: "LOVE IS FOREVER" IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG THAT I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF LISTENING TO IT! "ON MY OWN" IS ANOTHER GREAT SONG! AND OF COURSE THE LED ZEP TAINTED "HEADIN FOR MY DREAM" IS SO CLASSIC! THAT YOU KNOW THEIR ROOTS HAVE BEEN DUG DEEP IN ROCK AND ROLL! PLEASE IF YOU HAVE'NT PICKED THIS ONE UP, DO SO RIGHT NOW! I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL NEVER GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE! MARK,DANA,BLAS,JEFF ROCK OUT! BIG TIME!
