4.0 out of 5 stars Politically incorrect punk classic, August 8, 2005
By
This review is from: Back from Samoa (Audio CD)
Sure, these guys sound mighty tame compared to G.G. Allin or The Dwarves, but they're still very offensive to anyone only familiar with lame pop-punk (Green Day, Blink 182). Despite how offensive the subject matter can be, its so over the top you can't help but find it hilarious. Regardless of how serious they are (and they sound pretty convicted on tracks like "Homosexual"), its still a laugh out loud punk rock classic. And like all great punk rock, the riff ares simplistic yet catchy as hell. I dare you not to dance or hum along to "Haizman's Brain Is Calling" or "Not of This Earth". Its cheaper and more conveniant to pick up "The Unboxed Set", even though only 50% of the material on that compilation is great. The first two albums by the Samoans are classic, the second two are, well, safe and boring (I don't even considor "The '90s Suck & So Do You" to be a Samoans album, even though its fun and catchy). This is by far the best album from the Samoans. I mean how can you beat the lyrics to "They Saved Hitler's C^ck"?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, great band, June 5, 2004

The Angry Samoans have to be one of the most offensive, hilarious, and underrated bands of all time. I just saw them last night for the third time to a crowd of about 40 people, before that they played to about 200 people but they put on the same exact show and I have more fun seeing them than I do any other band. They are true punk rock originals and it's to bad that not many people know about them. God bless the Angry Samoans.

Ive loved this album for nearly 20 years. It still kicks as hard now as it did when it first came out on vinyl. It's awesome,if you can get your hands on it.Be prepared for a possible wait in obtaining 'Back From Samoa' as the album can be hard to find.
But be assured that this album is WORTH the wait.
Pure sonic adrenaline! Get it no matter how long it takes.

5.0 out of 5 stars OH!... That good ol' hardcore from the eighties!, November 23, 2000
This review is from: Back from Samoa (Audio CD)
But my favorite were the Angry Samoans' ones. Their music is so fresh, rude, fast, mean, true and yet naive and passionate. This is the truly spirit of punk rock. Best tracks for me: "Gas Chamber", "Time has come today" (Crazy remake of the Chamber Bros. version), but, to be honest, this is one of those albums you cannot hear just one or two songs from it. It's the whole thing or nothing. This is one record that the new kids, supposedely playing punk rock today, will have to listen in order to get some real street education...

5.0 out of 5 stars Time has come today, May 17, 2004
This review is from: Back from Samoa (Audio CD)
This is probably one of the greatest punk albums ever made. It's definately up there with The Ramones debut, Never Mind The Bollocks, and Damaged. My favorite songs have to be Gas Chamber, Tuna Taco, Steak Knife, and Time Has Come Today (Ramones do a pretty good version of this song too). Forget all about Simple Plan and New Found Glory, you can't go wrong with the Angry Samoans.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd only to "Never Mind The Bollocks", September 4, 2009
This review is from: Back from Samoa (Audio CD)
This is my favorite punk rock record of all time. I have to give Sex Pistols cred for being there first but these songs are the best. I've been listening to this record for over 20 years and it still makes me smile every time I hear it. Too many punk bands took themselves too seriously (Black Flag) while the Samoans lambasted the entire music industry (Rodney Bingenheimer), history (Hitler's cock?), themselves and society in general. Saw them play once in the late 80's and I will never forget it. They're winking at you but also play great, fun hardcore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great punk album from the early 80's -- and I owe them, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Back from Samoa (Audio CD)
Bought this album through an ad in Cream or Rolling Stone (forget which) back in the early eighties. I wanted hard core, in your face punk and that's exactly what I got.

Unfortunately, due to the hard financial times I was in at the time, my check for the album bounced. So sorry. One of the band members actually called me (don't know how he got my number). I apologized and promised to send them cash (I never did).

When I told friends about it, they said "watch your back". LOL, whatever. I think I still have the LP somewhere in my album collection...

Ordering the CD so these guys finally get my long overdue money...

Favorite song -- "They Saved Hitler's C--k".

A great album most people don't know about, 'Back From Samoa' along with the EP 'Inside My Brian' are two classics that anyone who is into early 1980's California punk must own. When this came out on vinyl, the first side (tracks 1-7 "Gas Chamber" thru "Homosexual" - a track credited to 'J. Falwell') was such a blast, the second side paled in comparison. All 14 tracks were over in about 22 minutes. Its also interesting that, shortly after the Samoans covered "Time Has Come Today", the Ramones issued their own version as a single (it also appears on 'Subterranean Jungle'). However, as an alternative to buying this disc, I would suggest 'The Unboxed Set' which contains everything from 'Back From Samoa' and 'Inside My Brain' along with other tracks (a total of 43 songs). Having 'Inside My Brain' and 'Back From Samoa' on the same disc is great!

Of all the "true" punk albums i've accrued in my life this is still one of my all time favorites! It's got everything from teen angst to cynicism to good old hardcore jams!
