4.0 out of 5 stars
the band comes apart but does it with hit singles!,

This review is from: Back to Back (Audio CD)
This release was the end of the original quo as Alan lancaster quit for good. This cd features a rock band who has had lots of hits going more to pop and that didn't help. Substance issues had driven the drummer out earlier as well. This features alot of great songs but it's slanted away from the original hard rock or just rock that made quo a monster boogie machine. However this one still had some hit's like 'ol rag blues' , and 'mess of the blues' which could have been on lots of earlier quo releases. The other big hit 'marguerita time' is a classic hit single but it's country flavored a bit! still a wonderful song though. You get some other cool songs on here like 'the wanderer' another hit single that came out and live tracks too. This is weaker than the last one they had but with those classic songs on it you can't give it less than four stars. Still fans were right to be worried at this point. what would happen if quo continued down this poppier path? And they did after another good release in 1986 'in the army now' which is even more uneven than this one, the band went off the deep end into a more pop sound rebounding with 91's 'rock til you drop' .I like the quo pop stuff but fans were not amused and franky it was a mistake for them. Still at this point only a few songs here seem weak even if you can sense a switch is coming into nostalgia , pop, etc.theses are the songs on this one. Mess Of Blues 2. Ol' Rag Blues 3.
