This review is from: Back on Track (Audio CD)
OK,SO THIS CD ONLY FEATURES ORIGINALS RIDLEY AND SHIRLEY...."BUT" THIS IS A GOOD CD.BOBBY TENCH WHO SANG IN THE COMPANY OF JEFF BECK DOES A NICE JOB ON VOCALS AND THE BAND IS TIGHT.I WAS CURIOUS WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CD BUT WHEN I SAW THAT IT WAS NOT YOUR TYPICAL..."LETS COVER PREVOIUS MARRIOTT STUFF" AND EXPLOIT THE HUMBLE PIE NAME,WELL I TOOK A LISTEN AND LIKED IT.STEVE WOULD BE SMILING THAT RIDLEY GOT TO ROCK ON ONE MORE TIME BEFORE HIS PASSING."EARS TO YOU"!!!!

Not Really Humble Pie, But Not Bad.....,
By
This review is from: Back on Track (Audio CD)
First off, Humble Pie WAS Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton, not Bobby Tench and this journeyman-for-hire guitar player. That is not to denigrate the contributions of Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley. They were an integral part of what made Humble Pie unique and great. That being said, this is a damn fine album!!! Good tunes and tight, rockin' playing! If you had never heard the original band you would enjoy this disc immensely. This may have been made to help out Mr. Ridley, whose health was in serious decline when this was recorded. You could do worse!!! Although I don't play this as much as say,Town and Country or Performance, I do pull it off the shelf on occasion and crank it up and have a rockin' good time!! Recommended.....

Humble Pie - 'Back On Track' (Sanctuary),
By
This review is from: Back on Track (Audio CD)
When I first heard some cuts off this CD,I made SURE it wasn't maybe some obscure little-known Pie lp reissue that I've never heard. It's that good.Well, without the late Steve Marriott anyway. This ten-track disc more or less threw me for somewhat of a loop.Old time members bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley is joined with new recruits guitarist Bobby Tench and vocalist Dave Colwell.Tunes that make this CD worth your time are the catchy "Dignified",the somewhat funky "Ain't No Big Thing","All I Ever Needed" and "This Time".I saw Humble Pie awhile back when they toured with Mahogany Rush and the late '70's glam idols Angel.Anyone else remember that?I recall their set lasting just thirty minutes in which they played like actually four, maybe five songs.Marriott kept going on about his two good-for-nothing ex-wives and spitting on the crowd.Yes,a good time was had by all.A sad footnote:sometime after the making of this disc, bassist Greg Ridley had passed away. One can never tell, for drummer Jerry Shirley just might decide to continue on.I've seen few other bands do it.

GREAT COMEBACK FOR THE PIE!!!,

I have found this album to be quite a gem,the music is well written and performed brilliantly. Greg Ridley's voice on tracks "trouble" and "Still got a story to tell" is intense and powerful. Any fan of the Pie would eat this up for these tracks alone. Bobby Tench is the other featured lead vocalist, any fan of Jeff Beck will remember Bobby's vocal talents. Bobby's songs "Stay one more Night" and "Old Teddy and Your Mom" highlights his great vocal range and talent. On the hard side "Real Thing" and "Flatbusted",a Jerry Shirley written song, havegreat hooks, and great backbone. What else would any Pie fan expect, when you have Greg and Jerry on bass and drums. The guitar work of Bobby and Dave "Bucket" Colwell,is top flight.Dave wrote the majority of tracks, and has proven himself to be a gifted and talented song writer!!! Hey, we all miss Steve Marriot, but the world still turns and these guy's have turned out one heck of album!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT RELEASE!!!

Humble Pie 30 years past prime minus Marriott,
By
This review is from: Back on Track (Audio CD)
I'm writing and rating this to balance the bewildering dominance of 5 star reviews with lots of helpful, supportive votes. Such reviews and helpful votes may lead some consumers to believe that this album rates a masterpiece that is an essential addition to any respectable record collection. Please keep in mind that this is Humble Pie, 30 years past their prime and without Steve Mariott, the foundational (not just a founding) figure of the band. Gotta love the mindless fanatics that can, at times, dominate customer reviews at Amazon. How can such an album rate a masterpiece or essential is beyond me. How others can validate such nonsense with their votes of approval is beyond me as well. Please balance the ignorance with your helpful votes for this review. Trust me. This album, which I bought as a $1.99 cut-out out of curiousity, is nothing more than a shadow of past accomplishments.

Greg Ridley's death in late 2003 makes this quite good and vital effort an even more poignant tribute to Steve Marriott and the Humble Pie that came before

Long live the Pie,

I was thumbing thru CDs at a music store the other day when Ifound a copy of this new Hunble Pie album. Having been a long time fan I was excited. There's Jerry Shirley,Greg Ridley, and Bobby Tench. All former members of the Pie. The album is supurb, it,s great, and certainly worth five stars. Good ol rockin songs such as Dignity kicking off the disc. Others include Real Thing,Ain't no big thing,This Time And Flatbusted. But also the new axe man Dave Colwell is fantastic. The Pie has never failed to replace a former guitarist with another equal or better. Example Peter Frampton who made stunning success, replaced by Clem Clemson a fantastic guitar man and now Dave Colwell a fine guitarist and writer. If you're an old Pie fan like myself buy this one. You won't be disappointed.
