3.0 out of 5 stars Good support but not the meditation device I'd imagined
I like the chair but I can't use it for sitting meditation as I planned. After 15 minutes there is more discomfort from the points where the straps touch than I'd hoped.

This is such a great, simple item and so effective. I use this when sitting on floors, and it is even more comfortable than sitting in a chair, though it works well for sitting in an office chair too. I bought a smaller version for throwing into a purse and for taking on camping trips, outdoor meditation, etc. though this one could easily be thrown into a backpack. It gives total support to the lower back and perfect posture, and the best thing is it takes little effort to use this. Probably the only hassle is taking it on and off when you need to get up to get something. I really had misgivings about how comfortable it would be, and the price seemed steep, but my back and spine are very thankful.
**If you are trying to decide between this style and the smaller style, I would definitely suggest getting this version. The wider back really makes a difference in comfort. Still, the small version is better than none (if you have a light-to-average build,) and if you'd like to save an extra $20, is still worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for low back pain, July 27, 2007
This review is from: Back-Up by Nada Chair - Choice of Color (Health and Beauty)
I bought one of these when they first came out and the Back-Up was the only style offered. In fact, it was just called the Nada Chair back then (over 20 years ago). I bought mine from a nurse that worked for a chiropractor. She said they used them in their practice on patients with low back pain. I had been suffering with lower back pelvic pain off and on for years. Whenever I had a flare-up I would see a chiropractor for several manipulations before getting relief. I decided to try it and bought one.

The nurse had suggested I use it 2-3 times a day for about 20 minutes at a time. The first time I tried it I was amazed at the relief I felt. It immediately takes the strain off the back and gives it support. It felt great! After a few days of use 2-3 times a day my pain was entirely gone.

Ever since then I pull it out when I first start to feel the pain return which, for me, has ranged from months to years after the last use. By using it right away I only need to use it 2 or 3 times to get relief. It has worn well over the years and is still in excellent condition. It was one of the best investments I've ever made.

I work all day as a transcriptionist and since using the NANA my back pains have been NADA - Not There! And I Love It! My biggest fear when ordering was that it would be a bear to put on but thank goodness it wasn't; It isn't anything to slip on and off. Definately Recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, a few strange things though., January 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product saved me during grad school finals time when all-day sessions in the library totally screwed up my back. I ordered a nada back-up after a few people on a web forum recommended it.

One strange thing is that it feels like I have to wear the product upside-down for the padded parts of the strap to line-up correctly with my knees, but it is at any rate one of the best posture correcting devices I've ever used, and it always accompanies me to any time I have to sit and read/study for long hours.

It also corrects posture. After finals time, I went on vacation and noticed that for several weeks my sitting and standing posture were incredible!

This is an absolutely exceptional product and I recommend it for anyone. I didn't realize how much I was slouching while at the computer until I used this product and it has made such a difference!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is truly a miracle product., August 10, 2007
This review is from: Back-Up by Nada Chair - Choice of Color (Health and Beauty)
I sit at a desk all day, and even in my Herman Miller chair, my posture still stinks. Mind you, it could be worse (I've had inferior chairs, and I slumped even more), but you still have to work to use a chair effectively.

Then I put on my Nada Chair Back-Up. Holy cow, what a difference it makes! You can't HELP but sit upright, the shins hold your lower back forward. The straps are a little ungainly at first, but when you get into the habit, you can put this thing on and take it off at a moment's notice. Not that you'll want to take it off.

You should remember, though: While it corrects your posture and relieves muscle tension in your lower back, you'll still need to exercise your lower back muscles with back extension exercises and such. That may be MORE important when you're using this product, since your back muscles don't have to work when you're wearing it. And a nice chair still helps out, especially if you don't want to wear the Nada Chair all day long. I might also recommend a small, thin pillow or towel to place between the back panel and your lower back -- extended wear periods make it feel like the edges are digging in a bit. That doesn't lower my rating at all, though. Not even a little bit.

If you're on the fence about it, get off the fence and buy this. Your lower back pain will be reduced or eliminated.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm happy with it, October 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have back pain that is exacerbated by sitting. At my job, I am in a sitting position nearly all day. I've found that applying support to my back and sitting up straight helps alleviate my pain issues. I tried using chair supports (Duro-Med Relax-a-Bac with Insert and Strap, Grayand Angel Sales PosturePro Lumbar Support) and pillows, but with all of them I found myself engaged in frequent readjustments and still slouching.

When I found Nada Chair, I thought it looked bizarre and was concerned about the investment. I've been surprised. The product is easy to use and provides comfortable, consistent support throughout the day. The bands easily slip around the knees and are just as easily removed if the user needs to stand up. I like that the product is portable. It reaches the user in what looks like a pouch. The pouch is actually the part of the product that rests on the user's back. The straps that wrap around the knees can be neatly tucked into the pouch portion and then zipped up so there are no loose straps hanging about. Admittedly, when in use, the product does look strange. Since the product has helped my back issues, I can deal with the strange appearance. Thankfully, it is not a sunshine yellow or stop sign red color.

There is no fancy hardware involved in the composition of the product, which may lead some to question cost. Again, I've found the product to alleviate pain and that is worth the cost of a Nada Chair to me. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lower back support and posture aid, December 9, 2011
Nada chair is a very pleasant surprise. It has come in handy both while recovering from a herniated disc, when I used it for up to 8 hours at a time, and on a "spot" basis when either a twinge occurs or I just know I'm going to be seated for an hour or two.

It looks a bit like it might be a medieval torture device, but it isn't. Buy the version that comes with the optional knee pads. They slide in place and distribute the pressure more widely on the knee. The straps are adjustable with an upper range when sitting upright if the front of your knee is about 28 inches from the back of the chair. It really does a great job of holding the lower back in place and ensuring proper posture. My back tends to feel better after a session using Nada Chair.

Of course, this does not cure any medical condition such as a disc problem. But by providing support and ensuring good posture while seated it helps reduce pain and probably helps recovery.

As others have noted, it does not look pretty although fortunately it is available in black. The pain reduction and comfort are well worth dealing with the appearance. I know of some people who use it on an airplane. I have not quite done that yet. I wonder what TSA would say here in the USA, although there is no metal in it!

Nada Chair is a much better solution than the seat-back cushions sold to provide lumbar support. I found some of those uncomfortable since they push you forward in the seat, reduce thigh support, and feel uncomfortable against the back. Nada chair has none of these shortcomings.

It does seem a bit pricey for what you get although as a medical-related item I guess that might be expected. I am very happy with it and very glad I purchased it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you slouch, try it out., November 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For those who sit on the edge of their beds, couches, large chairs or on the lawn when it's a beautiful day but have posture issues that go along with or have contributed to lower back issues, the NadaChair is very supportive in a comfortable way. You can be relaxed when sitting yet not slip into a slouch, unconsciously, when you're using it. Read about it and give it a try. You probably won't be disappointed!
