5.0 out of 5 stars Again with the Church February 5, 2010
Format:Audio CD
If you are a Church fan, you must buy this album. It is yet another great album by one of the greatest bands ever. Go to the Second Motion Entertainment website or even the Church website to buy this album and other great releases, for less money than you will pay here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Great Church January 4, 2010
Format:Audio CD
This is supposed to be a companion piece to Uninvited Like the Clouds....but, it is fantastic. Are they outtakes or songs not worthy of a regular release?
Nonsense! Simply one of the very best of the band's albums, it is listed as a 'jam' album, but it is far more. The 20 minute Night Sequence sounds like stream of consciousness and it rocks. The rest are high quality Church things. I can't single out any tunes, my list would be as long as six or seven. Let's just say that Pantechnicon is sublime.

Highly recommended. PS...sshh, it can probably be found as a download.

4.0 out of 5 stars GRAND SONIC TECHNICOTHICA November 3, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
They've been called the best guitar band on the planet. Musically I consider them "the Sun, while all others are merely shadows." With that said, know that this is a review by, singularly, the biggest CHURCH fan in the known universe (and maybe beyond). This loose, improvisational offering does not disappoint the faithful, as Marty and Peter weave their usual virtual cornucopia of sonic tapestries in and out of each other over Steve's thoughtful lyrics. Tim has captured one of his best snare sounds ever! As stated above, this is more of a relaxed, free, though at times, structured "jam", which is why the unusual directions some of the material takes works so well. I question whether or not they would have captured something so creative, albeit atypical, if they had thought it out more, recorded demos, polished it in pre-production, then committed it to digital memory. In a recent interview the members spoke of the virtues of being an independent band and the fact that they, and their company, feel comfortable releasing BACK WITH TWO BEASTS proves that. I cannot find an unworthy track on this recording, but the standouts thus far are SNOWFALLER and PANTECHNICON. I highly recommend this to all fans of the band, yet for someone interested in exploring THE CHURCH I would suggest you start with, again, what some critics have called their "near flawless" works: HEYDAY, STARFISH. In addition to those I would advocate acquisition of REMOTE LUXURY, THE BLURRED CRUSADE, HOLOGRAM OF BAAL, and, what the group once considered their best, PRIEST = AURA. From there the veritable plethora of solo and side projects is also more than worthwhile. Balthazar says, "Give it a listen." Be well, as "It's something quite peculiar... something shimmering and bright... it leads you here despite your destination... under the Milky Way tonight."

4.0 out of 5 stars these beasts were a good idea July 5, 2010

If you're a Church fan this CD is a must. Pantechnicon is the 'hit single' in my mind if radio ever gave a damn about decent music. If you're a XM fan of '1st Wave' a few of these songs could make their way onto their rotation if this CD was released in the glorious decade that was the 80's. They would really fit well on 1st Wave's 'dark wave' segment. XM fans know what I'm referring to.

If you don't believe me, you can listen to the tracks yourself. Many are found as user made videos on ***tube.

I would not pay a high price for the CD though. The Church's US-based company (second motion records) has the best price on their obscure releases, so I'd go there. It's also probably the only 'record' company that will send you the CD in a hand written envelope (yes, they are that small).
