5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding from beginning to end!
I have had this CD since it came out in 96 and I still listen to it on a regular basis. The CD is really what good R&B mucis use to be.Tevin covers all types of music on this CD.I'm from the old school of Marvin Gaye , Al Green and The Isley Brothers and Tevin is definately on his way to being like these giants of R&B. I only hope that he continues to be...

This album is Tevin's third installment. He previous albums was well accepted and sold well. This album (Back to the World) was a coming of age album. Tevin had reached maturity and he voice had evolved. What was kinda of funny was I seen him perform Tommorrow on a tribute show to Quincy Jones and he totally changed the way he sang it because his voice had changed. I...

I only hope that he continues to be creative and give people something original and not a full of things everyone has heard before. That is what made the before mentioned artist legends . Todays, so called, R&B artist are only producer prodigys and you really wonder where the music is going. The music of this CD is very melodic and the lyrics are not full of vulgarity and foolishness that you here on music being released today. R&B music should move you and this CD did that for me,you can dance and romance. If you like good R&B this is a great CD from a great singer and creative force for many years to come.I am anticipating the release of Tevin's next CD and I hope it is as good as the previous releases.

4.0 out of 5 stars What happened, Tevin?, August 28, 2004
This review is from: Back to the World (Audio CD)
Tevin Campbell was one of the baddest vocalists to ever hit the scene in the early 90's. But where is he know? Who knows. His last album came out in '99, which was 5 years ago... so I think he's finished for a while. But "Back To The World" was a hint of things to come from the 20-year-old wunderkind; he had some pretty good joints on here. It is important to note that the people behind some of the better songs on here are Rahsaan Patterson and Jamey Jaz. Rahsaan Patterson is a neo-soul artist that writes his own stuff, and he's one of the baddest vocalists in music period. The songs that he wrote on here are the more interesting ones. For instance- "Could It Be". There can't be a more catchy song than that for Tevin to sing. Jamey Jaz is a really talented producer who helms much of the musical work on Patterson's 2 solo albums. It would be cool if Tevin and Rahsaan could do an album together, being that they have similar voices. Babyface comes proper as usual with a few good ballads, such as "Tell Me Where". P. Diddy also laced Tevin with a couple of beats here, and the results are pleasing because Tevin can make anything sound good. My favorite songs on here are the title track "Back To The World" and "I Got It Bad" (both written by Patterson). "Back To The World" is undeniably catchy and Tevin's vocals couldn't be better. I think that if Tevin continued on this soulful path, he could have been big at least amongst neo-soul fans, but we have yet to see if he comes back and hits us with something else. We have been waiting a pretty long time, man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD but the end was near, April 12, 2005
This review is from: Back to the World (Audio CD)
After releasing one of the best sophmore CD'S in history and approaching his early twenties, Tevin Campbell had a lot to prove. Back to the World is where Tevin Campbell returns as a man, ready to prove that he is no longer the child prodigy of yesteryear. For the most part, he succeeds in establishing himself as a vocalist of prodigious talents and significant worth. Of course, it was clear even in his earliest recordings that he was something special - a vocalist that could sing with a sweet, easy grace but remain soulful and not cloying in the slightest. No matter how Campbell tries to phase out that sweetness on Back to the World - after all, one of the first steps of maturity is to shed your childhood affectations - he retains that appealing quality, which makes the album all the more endearing. That's not to say that the uptempo cuts don't work. On the contrary - they are state-of-the-art pieces, thanks to the talents of producers like Puffy Combs, whose "I Need You" is a semi highlight. The ballads are the CD'S strong point Could You Learn To Love and I'll Be There were easily two are of the singer's strongest ballads ever recorded. But the key to the record's success is how Campbell grows and matures without sacrificing his gift for pure sweet contemporary soul. Back to the World is proof positive that the teen idol is now

5.0 out of 5 stars TEVIN CAMPBELL, July 12, 2008
This review is from: Back to the World (Audio CD)
BACK TO THE WORLD IS AN EXCELLENT PROJECT RECORDED AND SOME PRODUCED AND WRITTEN BY TEVIN! IT HAS SEVERAL GREAT SONGS ON IT. I'M DISAPPOINTED THAT IT DIDN'T GET A LOT OF AIRPLAY OR THAT IT DIDN'T HAVE MANY SONGS RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC. IF I'M NOT MISTAKING I THINK THIS CD HAS "DANDELION" ON IT. THAT IS REALLY A SPECIAL SONG AND IS WELL ARRANGED. I'M TOTALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE SPANISH VERSION OF IT. TEVIN REALLY DOES A COMMENDABLE JOB ON THIS ONE. HIS VOICE IS SO STRONG AND CONFIDENT. AND AS USUAL, HE DOESN'T MISS A BEAT. HIS VOICE IS SO WELL TRAINED HE KNOWS HOW TO DELVER ANY SONG HE GIVES US. HE IS SUCH AN AMAZING ARTIST AND A MAN OF MANY SKILLS AND TALENTS! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE! I RATE IT A PERFECT 5!

"could it be" and "beautiful thing" have always had that classic appeal, could be on the radio even today as a new track... and make the c.d. worth having in your r&b collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise Of A Real Artist, October 30, 2005
This review is from: Back to the World (Audio CD)
Even though, I have yet to purchase, Back To The World, I've heard quite a few of the cuts, and if they are any indication, of the entire package, then it must be a real keeper. Back To The World, alone, is incredible, not to mention, Could You Learn To Love, which is a throwback to a time when music was about something. A good lyric, for one, was valued, and an artist, such as Tevin Campbell, with that incredible voice, would be at the top of the game. Today, anything will due, and as a result, the music has suffered. Tevin, again, doesn't disappoint. The songs, at least the ones I have heard, and or sampled, are indicative of what Mr. Campbell, as an artist, is truly able to do. I'm just waiting to get paid, but as soon as that happens, I plan to make a buy. I don't know where I was when, Back To The World, came out, but being the fan, that I am, I don't know how I could have missed it. Anyway, based on what I've already heard, it's worth every penny.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Back to the World (Audio CD)
I really liked Tevin Campbell in Disney's "A Goofy Movie". It made the movie really special. But now when I go and see what his old CDs were like, they sound almost nothing like the guy. The music is WAY too slow paced and his voice sounds bored and well... like it's just dragging on and on. Maybe it was because the music was more upbeat and bassey--not to mention totally cool in the movie. I only gave the CD two stars because of his terrific performance in "A Goofy Movie". Check out that CD if you want to see the best of Tevin.
